Re: ISU getting lots of love on KC radio
I think the reason that our coaches say that Iowa State has the best fans in the nation is that the fans are invested in the game and when the BIG win happens...the fans explode. The players are never going to forget the field and court storming and they will always know that they made it happen. No matter what happens to their career, they'll always be able to fall back on the time they made the fans storm the playing field.
I think the storming will moderate when the wins become more common place but I hope it never stops completely. Anytime we get a major upset, we need to show the players we appreciate their effort.

I'm not saying we're at that level. I'm saying if we ever even approach that level (like we did a decade ago) I would hope our fans would stay off the court, much like they did a decade ago when we expected to win games.

Its not 'dooshy' at all. I dont so much care if they want to celebrate. They believe theyre too good for it. Their loss. I take more offense from their arrogant rock chalk chant, especially in road arenas.

Re: ISU getting lots of love on KC radio
I love the idea of storming the court (when it's applicable -> like Saturday)..The only thing I would like to see is that the fans let the visiting team leave the court entirely before getting on the court... I couldn't really tell if this happened last week, but I know it doesn't in most situations.

Someone else posted this a couple days ago. Thought I'd repost here. Link: Iowa State knocks off number 5 Kansas at home! Hilton magic! : CollegeBasketball
1 Duke rushed against unranked Virginia Tech in 2005.
Kansas hasn't rushed a home game since the late 70s, but they rushed an empty court at Phog after the 2008 championship and they rushed a neutral court in Las Vegas against #1 Florida in 2006 while ranked #12.
13 UNC rushed against #4 Duke last year.
Unranked UConn rushed against #1 Texas in 2010.
As for the "above rushing the court schools" you didn't mention:
Unranked Indiana against #1 Kentucky this year.
Unranked UCLA against unranked Washington in 2010.
Unranked Michigan State against #1 Wisconsin in 2007.
Unranked Syracuse against #9 Georgetown.
Kentucky is the only blue blood without a recent full-fledged court storm. Of course, they're also the only one on the list that doesn't have significant student seating anywhere near the floor. (imagine the blue hairs using their canes and walkers to rush) But even that didn't stop a few students from rushing when they beat Vanderbilt in 2008.
There aren't schools that don't rush the court. Some do it less than others, but every blue blood or near blue blood program had rushed (or partially rushed) in the last decade. The elitist mentality isn't rooted in any sort of fact.
They're 18-22 and usually drunk. They're excited. Nobody gets hurt (and arena security is always there to protect the opposing team). Be happy you rushed. It means you got a huge win and that your students actually care. One person did get hurt in this case. Still no shame in it. Everyone does it.

I would have been incredibly ****** last year if Kansas fans decided to celebrate their win by rushing their court after beating the Cyclones.

Good point, because when you think of traditional basketball powers, you think of KU, Kentucky, UCLA, Duke, North Carolina and Iowa State.
Blue blood programs like ISU and Duke SHOULD NOT RUSH THE COURT.

An opinion several thousand fans obviously disagree with.
You wouldve hated it because we lost. You might as well be hating the fans celebrating in the stands too.

Re: ISU getting lots of love on KC radio
I'll never forget when the student section stormed the field after beating...Ohio...in the 90s. I know it was ISU's first win in over a year, but it was Ohio. Twas a sign of things to come ;)

Re: ISU getting lots of love on KC radio
Lmao! There is nothing wrong at all with storming the court/field at all after a major upset or winning something big like a Championship. Hell we should rush the court after any and all tournament if/when we make it. The ****** who pointed out Kansas/Kentucky, when you're great you aren't in many upset situations are you? Completely different situation.

Blue blood programs like ISU and Duke SHOULD NOT RUSH THE COURT. You are both right.
The thing is we are excited, I expect this to happen for a while...until WE HAVE BEEN there. Call it douchy if you want jdog, but the kids were jazzed. I think it has an equal and opposite reaction if they stand around and golf clap. I realize you aren't saying to golf clap-but holy crap it has been a minute. It shows recruits of things to come, it shows recruits what it is like in Ames, it gets donors excited, it gets the kids a small reward for all of the hard work, it puts the roots deeper for kids that are on the recruit fence...right now it is expected and good for the program. As Fran said at the end of the game...'this won't happen in 2-3 years this will be a normal win'.
Embrace it, and for keee-rists sake lets quit ******* on each other after an amazing win.

Re: ISU getting lots of love on KC radio
Nope "dooshes" we can't get excited about wins anymore.

Re: ISU getting lots of love on KC radio
My favorite "dooshy" rush the court of all time was in 2001 when Tinsley hit the last second lay up against Nebraska and their fans rushed because they thought it was after the buzzer.
