Re: Life without Royce...
Ya of course we wouldn't be as good...how much worse is hard to say. Instead of saying Fred basically would suck as a coach without him they could open their eyes and note that instead of allowing the point to be a real weakness for our team Fred adjusted and allowed Royce to handle the ball and create a mismatch for the other team. But I guess if your from kansas city and upset we beat both your teams you might be a little upset this week. Imagine next year when we have a couple pg's to penetrate the lane to go along with Royce, and Babb defending your best guy.

Re: Life without Royce...
Maybe a more apt comparison might be: how would this team perform if it was coached by Scott Drew?
I think we all know the answer to that.
"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr -
Re: Life without Royce...
Good players make coaches look good. You HAVE to have the horses, especially in the Big12.
This has been proven in college basketball. Scott Drew, Bill Self, and Jim Boeheim have all had multiple good players to make them look better. Also, their teams generally have enough good players that the loss of one does not make them look that much worse.
CFH looks better with Royce than without, but in a year or two, when Royce is gone, he will have multiple players recruited who can also make him look good.
CFH has proven that he will go and get the horses to play in this league, no matter where he gets them from. That is why this team will continue to "look good" even in the future.

Re: Life without Royce...
STUPID COMMENT but not surprising considering some of the early morning sports talk guys. Deal with the facts as they are - White is here and that's what counts.

Re: Life without Royce...
We'd be worse off but not Cleveland with out LeBron worse.

If that football woulda killed Marcia, there would be 16% fewer Brady kids. True fact.

I guess I'd put his point on its ear and comment on how good a job Fred has done running his offense with no pg and a 6-7 point forward. Also, with Royce getting so much love and the entire offense running through him, how well he has handled egos and kept the petty stuff to a non-existent level. Or how about how he has taken a guy that was considered to be a shooter/scorer in his former basketball life and utilized him as the best defensive stopper in the league?
I can see the point he's trying to make, but if he's using Royce as an excuse to pick apart Fred's coaching without recognizing all the other good things he's done, he's missing his mark and not doing his show justice.

It's cool... I didn't take it that way. He said every team obviously has their star that carries them... he mentioned Robinson at KU. His point was that Royce is so critical to every phase of our game that he's unusual even by "star" standards. How many players are out there that lead their teams in basically every important category? He truly is a unique beast.
As for Fred, he wasn't knocking his coaching so much as saying all he did was give his best player the ball and tell him to win the game. His other radio host was giving Fred a lot of credit for the comeback. He downplayed it given Royce's dominance.
To me, I think Royce could be a difficult player to manage without the right coach. I think he has a lot of respect for Fred and his ability and has really bought into our program. He's made huge strides this year. Fred gets a lot of that credit, of course.

Re: Life without Royce...
How good would Kansas be without Taylor their PG? Without him they would be in the same position that ISU is currently in. We have a talented post player, some talented shooting guards, some quality role players, and no PG. Put a true PG on this ISU team and they are a superior squad to Kansas IMO.
