Chris Allen had to go left because if I remember correctly their were three defenders waiting for him to drive to the right side of the basket....
I was hoping that Chris would just stop short of the 3 point line and just let it fly and we take our chances that way rather than hoping on a layup basket or a foul which this crew aint never gonna call...

Re: I'd bet that Allen was told to go for the layup
I have zero issues with the play call and execution. We got the ball into the hands of our hottest shooter going towards the bucket. All too often you see guys jack a shot at the first opportunity with little time remaining. Allen had a good feel for his time left and options, took what was offered and got a good shot off before the buzzer.
Unfortunately, all of that was offset by a tremendous defensive play by Nash. Fault the shot selection and turnovers earlier in the game if you like, but not that last play in my opinion.

Thoughts? Probably the smartest play.

I think this is it. It made sense. High-percentage shot with a chance to draw a foul. I don't think many people in the world expected Nash to block that. Tremendous play on his part.

Re: I'd bet that Allen was told to go for the layup
Nash made a helluva play. I trusted every bit of what CFH and CA were doing. Allen has been questionable on shot selection earlier in the season, but the last cpl games, the guy has flat out been hooping. If he doesn't play well the last cpl of games we don't win. I thought we played hard but didn't make shots or FT when it counted. Also, them shooting 55% in the 2nd half is tough to overcome. Overall, hard fought game by the boys and Royce taking the blame via twitter? The guy was 3 assists away from a Triple Double, not too shabby if you ask me. Just keep working on those FT buddy. Proud of our boys regardless

Look at it like this:
1. CA had the hot hand it has to go to the senior with a hot hand in that situation
2. CA is going to try and either catch them off guard, or draw a foul
3. Royce was trailing, so even if he didn't make the layup if it goes off the back board RW slams it home.
I just believe it was a lot higher percentages with that rather than drive and dish for a 3
And unfortunately they were able to block it which nullified any of these outcomes. They just played good D There wasn't time for option #3. The game clock expired long before the ball went out of bounds. A miss on the shot wouldn't have gotten off the rim before the light went on.
I still think it was a good try. They just didn't have a lot of time to work with. It was a good call based on the circumstances. A dish for a 3 might have been nice, but I'm not even sure there was time for anything but a really hurried attempt if anyone was open.
It was a good play, Nash just made a better one.

Now if Fred can just get him to channel that concentration on every FT attempt...

I think Allen was shooting a higher percentage from 3 than for Lay-ups.
Lay-up drills on Thursday in practice boys... line em up!

Re: I'd bet that Allen was told to go for the layup
Regardless of what he was told to do, that ballerina layup was sad. Not to mention the 45 other layups we missed in the game . . . -
Re: I'd bet that Allen was told to go for the layup
I just wish we could of got the ball off of any kind and had a chance to go in. Didn't work in our favor this time.
Go kick AM to the floor. We need another 15-20 point pounding with some resounding slams!
