Head Ref tonight Joe DeRosa is crooked!
Quick question. What are the 2 worst officiated games most of you have seen this year? ISU at KU and ISU at Ok St were officiated by Joe DeRosa and those 2 of my top 3. Bulls at Heat is 3rd.
Joe DeRosa was an NBA official for a long time working NBA Finals from 2000-2009. Think of how many poorly officiated Finals happened during that stretch. Every Final the Spurs won where Bruce Bowen was considered a "great" Defender by holding every player he guarded. Detroit over LA? A joke again apparently great D :). Dirk was never fouled Heat Mavs in 05? :) Boston over LA? Again awesome D right? Laughable!
SO why is DeRosa ref'ing NCAA now? OH he threw a ball at a fan! Really? Seems a little harsh considering Joey Crawford got into it with Tim Duncan and is still an NBA ref. NBA just doesn't give up on great ref's?
A closer google search like "Tim Donaghy Joe DeRosa" brings up a lot of results. DeRosa even appears in Donaghy's book! Am I reading too much between the lines? Cause the dude does seem crooked......

We could have won the game tonight no matter what he called, but yes he's a crooked ****** apart from that.

If you'd ask "of all time" and put it to a poll...
You will probably (and arguably) get a wealth of votes for a game that transpired up in Auburn Hills, MI, in March of 2000 against the Michigan St. Spartans (and their team of ref's)

I've told people about this play, and I get a lot of skeptical looks back. I'm not one to get very worked up about officiating, but it still makes me furious to this day. It is easily the worst call I've ever seen in any sport.

However, over the PA system, the announcer stated that he was going to shoot a 1 and 1. Homan steps up to the line and misses the first free throw. Instead of the ref getting the ball and giving it to Homan to shoot his second free throw, a Kansas player got the rebound, went down the court and made a 3. As impossible as this is to believe, the refs actually awarded Kansas the basket. As common sense would dictate, if you are thinking "Wait, isn't the ball not in play in between free throws? How can they score a basket?", you are right. The refs then stopped play and determined that they made an error, and it needed to be corrected. However, the "correction" was not to take away the 3 pointer, it was to allow Homan to shoot his second free throw.
To summarize and state a second time in case you are understandably unable to comprehend this bizarre sequence of events, Homan was fouled in the act of shooting, and after he missed his first free throw, Kansas grabbed the rebound and scored a 3. Kansas literally scored a 3 while the ball was not in play.
In the midst of a 22 game conference road losing streak, ISU lost in OT. Recap of the game with a description of the call at the end of the article. I would LOVE to see video of this play again as even though I remember it like it was yesterday, I still have a hard time believing it actually happened. I also remember the announcers gushing about how good a job Kansas did on the rebound and subsequent 3, but my hatred of this call may be clouding my memory. If any other posters remember this, please either confirm the story or correct it where necessary because I need to be sure I'm not a crazy person.

Re: Head Ref tonight Joe DeRosa is crooked!
Re-watch Ejim's 4th foul and Re-watch Chris Allen's final drive to the bucket.
Ejim had great defensive position and and didn't do anything. Allen drives to the bucket hand checked all the way and shoved as he goes up. Remember Ejim got called for foul and Nash called for nothing. Logic and reason don't apply

It is nice to get Reps and all, but others should post their feelings on how bad this guy actually is. There is bad officiating and then there is Joe DeRosa

Re: Head Ref tonight Joe DeRosa is crooked!
Iowa game was very foul ridden. Neither team could build momentum with all of the fouls called

Re: Head Ref tonight Joe DeRosa is crooked!
How about not going into bonus all night???
However you can't shoot 38% and win....

Everyone's favorite Tommy O'Neill was involved in that ridiculousness at KU that year.
