Chris Allen named Big 12 Rookie of the Week

Here's the release from the Big 12.

Allen becomes the third different Cyclone to earn rookie honors this season after Iowa State split two games, dropping a 69-67 decision at Oklahoma State before posting a 69-46 win over Texas A&M. The senior guard recorded two 20-point efforts, finishing with 22 points against the Cowboys prior to having a career-best 25 points versus the Aggies. It was his third and fourth 20-point games of the year. Allen made 11-of-18 (.611) shots from 3-point range for the week and shot 50.0 percent (16-of-32) overall. He has made a 3-pointer in 14 consecutive games and is 17-of-29 (.586) from beyond the arc in his last four contests. He leads the Cyclones in 3-pointers (58) this season.

I know he's new to the league, but I laugh a little when a senior gets rookie honors.

Actually, he is the fourth Cyclone this year.....Royce twice, Babb once, McGee once and now Allen. First time a team has had 4 ROTW in one year I think.

I'm sure Percy and Booker are starting to feel left out. Time for them to step up and collect the hardware.

Can you imagine having to cover Scotty, McGee and now red-hot Allen with Booker and Royce underneath?

That's a pretty tall order for any D. There just aren't any glaring weaknesses. Even if we go "Big" and put Ejim out there he can shoot if he's left alone.

Not to bag on Melvin too much, but I'm pretty sure that is what Baylor is hoping for...

I agree. He can definitely shoot if left alone, but can't make them with any consistency. But, might as well start hitting them tonight.

I look for CA to put up some monster numbers against this zone tonight. Put Royce at the high post and allow him to facilitate, and get the ball out to Scottie, CA, Tyrus and Babb.
