Coach Fred Hoiberg deserving Big 12 coach of the year
If ISU finishes in solo 3rd place this year in the Big 12?
Missouri and Kansas both were expecting to be goodn but ISU was picked to finish near the basement of the conference this year again so that should give Hoiberg Big 12 coach of the year if ISU finishes in 3rd place, right?

Whether we finish 3rd or 4th he has a good chance. Improving to 9-5 after finishing 3-13 while only returning three scholarhip players each of the past two years is pretty impressive.

Re: Coach Fred Hoiberg deserving Big 12 coach of the year
Any other year I would be 100% behind this. I do believe he deserves it with how he has managed to turn a doormat program around, but the media members are going to go with Missouri unfortunately, which I hate!!!!
I don't know how you don't give a guy who took a team from being below .500 for all of McD's terms to a 3rd/4th place finish in 2 years?!? Not to mention you did it with a team unfamiliar with each other!!
Damn you Missouri!!!!!

Re: Coach Fred Hoiberg deserving Big 12 coach of the year
Haith inherited a Mizzou team with Top-25 talent, and he coached them into the Top 10 - while dealing with the Shapiro scandal looming over him and a fan base that was less than enthusiastic with his hire.
Coach Hoiberg is definitely a candidate, but Haith is a lock for B12 Coach of the year and should also be a candidate for National Coach of the Year.

I go with honorable mention.

Re: Coach Fred Hoiberg deserving Big 12 coach of the year
He definitely deserves a long look at it, but Haith probably has the inside track (even though he inherited a lot of talent- his big was injured and is out this year). Self also will get consideration for returning few starters, even though the talent level there is outrageous compared to most schools.

Maybe if we win out I'd agree, but as it is stated above, I think you have to give it to Haith right now.

If we can win 3 of the last 4 and at least 1 in the tournament, he has a fighting chance.
Bill Self has done a pretty darn good job with one of the least talented KU teams in awhile as well.

They always overlook the little guy. I can't wait to be a big guy again.

I'd vote for Haith if voting today.

Re: Coach Fred Hoiberg deserving Big 12 coach of the year
I'm ok with 2nd place this year. I think some people will also still be critcal of the transfer thing and "not doing it the right way" while others will be impressed with how he has managed the characters and talant and became one of the top teams in the Big 12.
That said Haith really does deserve it. I know he inherited talant, but as some1 mentioned before he took a top 25 team and made them a top 10 team. Consider the fact he has done it with only 7 scholarship players most of the year and that is impressive...I would be surprised if he doesn't get the award for the entire country.

Re: Coach Fred Hoiberg deserving Big 12 coach of the year
If the award is for Big 12 COACH of the year, I think CFH should win hands down. Unfortunately, as with all of these coach and player of the year awards, it is really seems to be "Coach (or Player) of the Year whose team wins or almost wins the conference".
For the B12 here is how I would rank the coaches performance (purely on coaching):
1) Hoiberg
2) Haith
3) Self
4) Martin
5) Kruger
6) Barnes
7) Ford
8) Gillespie
9) Drew
10) Kennedy

Re: Coach Fred Hoiberg deserving Big 12 coach of the year
Haith should win it if Missouri doesn't tank. Fact is Haith and Self have a runaway train going at the top of the conference. We still have 5 conference losses and only 1 high quality win.
