Best scenario for ISU this week
If all of the following happens, ISU is most likely a tournament lock. (Actual bracket placement pending)
1. Defeat TT and KSU. Obviously top priority, and only thing Iowa State can control. This alone may be enough to earn a bid, but comfort zone is shaky.
2. Texas defeats Baylor. That swings UT firmly back into tournament status, at least for the moment. ISU's win over Texas remains in steady RPI territory. (Bonus: Iowa State alone in third place at week's end )
3. KSU upsets Missouri. After BU/MU road wins, KSU is probably a tournament lock and climbing in RPI — and ISU has a sweep.
4. Texas wins @Tech. Obvious, for reasons stated in (2).
Hoping for No. (3) may be a little greedy. But remember, this is best-case for this week. And KSU did trounce Missouri at home, so it's not an extreme possibility.
Re: Best scenario for ISU this week
Wouldn't winning out be the best scenario?

I think if your read the thread title and his 1st point this is covered.
Re: Best scenario for ISU this week
Isu is a lock if we win those two games regardless.

Even if Baylor defeats Texas, and Mizzou defeats KSU, it's not a terrible thing. In that scenario, ISU is assured a 4th place finish no matter what happens ini the rest of the season.

Correct. I was thinking rest of the regular season. Hand me a dunce cap...
Re:Best scenario for ISU this week
I personally think if we get to 10 conference it is hard to say no. 11 would be a lock...

This might be better than a dunce cap.

I think this is an interesting topic as many of the conference games will have an affect on our tournament resume...here is how I see it for the week:
1. Defeat TT and KSU. Obvious...next.
2. KU win both, A&M and Mizzou. This is because we have a victory over them and that will be very impressive if they are a 1 seed.
3. Okie State win both, OU and A&M. We could use another top 100 win (plus doesn't make our road loss to them look as bad).
4. Texas also win both, Baylor and Tech. Again, this would most likely get them in the top 50 and would improve our resume.
To put it simply for the remainder of this year we want as many top 25, 50 and 100 wins on our schedule as possible. If Baylor and Mizzou stay in the top 25, along with KU being a 1 seed and we get 1 victory over each that would be great. KSU and Texas need to crack the top 50 if possible and we need to complete the sweep of KSU. OSU needs to seperate themselves from the 3 at the bottom as well as all of our non-con teams winning games (yes even if that includes Iowa).
Note: please keep in mind this is not a post as to what we need to get a tourney bid, but just to get the best possible bid. I think 2 wins and we are in.
Re: Best scenario for ISU this week
Yeah, I'm a big Texas fan this week, assuming we can take care of business.

Good additions.
As much as I hate rooting for KU to win the conference, that may be what it takes to secure a 1 seed, and as you said, ISU has a head-to-head win there (we might get a split w/ Missouri, but that's the most difficult remaining game)
Hadn't thought about OSU getting into top 100. That wouldn't hurt, either.
Re: Best scenario for ISU this week
I'm rooting for Baylor to beat Texas tonight.
I always try to plan for the worst case scenario and hope for the best. The worst case scenario is that ISU, after beating Texas Tech, loses at Missouri, at K State, at home to Baylor, and in Kansas City to Texas.
If this were to happen, then Texas would likely take ISU's ticket to the dance because ISU will have finished the season with a four-game losing streak and they will have just lost to Texas 2 out of 3 times.
It pains me to root for Baylor tonight, but I want as much distance between ISU and Texas as possible!
Re: Best scenario for ISU this week
I have a feeling that we might have a better chance at knocking off Baylor at home than beating KState in little M
Re: Best scenario for ISU this week
Item #1 will do it without the need for any others.

item number 1 is sufficient to get us in. How other scenarios play out will determine how high we may go, which might determine how far we go.
