Past Conference bids to NCAA
Is our conference that weak this year? I always thought the Big 12 qualified 5 or 6 for the NCAA and now only 3 appear to be a lock this late in the season.
Anybody have a history of Big 12 qualifiers in the last 10 years or so?

Well, for one, fewer total teams in the big 12 now...

3 out of 10 or even 4 out of 10 would be completely ridiculous. Computers have the Big 10 and Big 12 one and two and it's a razor thin difference. Not sure how some leagues get 50% or more in and the #2 conference only gets 30% or 40%.
I think there's a lot in the air depending on how well ISU, KSU and Texas finish. Could be four teams if they all flop, there's no reason it couldn't be 6 if they all play well.
Katz said the minute Neb and Colorado left that the B12 is the best basketball conference now. Swapping WVU for Missouri and TCU for A&M really doesn't change much in that regard either. Nebraska was a bigger embarrassment to the Big 8 and Big 12 than TCU would have historically been.

Re: Past Conference bids to NCAA
Most recent predictions I've seen have 5-6 teams in this year, depending on Texas.

10 years:
2011- 5 (all current members)
2010- 7 (all current members)
2009- 6 (all current members)
2008- 6 (all current members)
2007- 4 (all current members)
2006- 4 (all current members)
2005- 6 (all current members)
2004- 4 (all current members)
2003- 6 (5+ colorado)
2002- 6 (all current members)
Only getting 3 would be the lowest ever for bids among this group of 10 teams. However, that is extremely unlikely to happen, likely to see 5, possibly 6 bids.

Anybody have a history of Big 12 qualifiers in the last 10 years or so? You are comparing # of bids with # of locks with 3 weeks to go. It's a false comparison.
The BigXII will get 5 or 6 again this year, just in line with previous years.

Im sure if you went and compared a few weeks out from the tourney you'd find similar things in past years with a few locks, a couple having a little work to do yet (but expected in), and a couple with an outside shot at it.

Re: Past Conference bids to NCAA
the K-State team in '07 that missed the dance when they finished 10-6 in the conference... Looks like they didnt beat a ranked team all year and you have to think with 3 more bids now that they would have gotten one of those. 2006-2007 Kansas State Basketball Schedule - K-State Update -
Re: Past Conference bids to NCAA
Thanks, for the info, I think with the Kansas and K State wins, Iowa State will get in as long as the beat TT and get one in the tourney.

Re: Past Conference bids to NCAA
Why do we have to wait for the conference tournament to get this "insurance" win over a non-Tech team?
Chances are we'll face KSU in first round - why not win @KSU? Or beat Baylor at home? Why wait?

This is why the B1G getting 9 teams this year is laughable. I can't believe any so-called experts or "bracketologists" would even consider this a possibility. The Big 12 had some very good teams over those years and never even had 8 teams in.
