I don't know how many of you are familiar with the four factors of basketball analysis but I dive into it here...

There is already a common weight given to each of them but I wanted to see which factors are the most important for the Big 12 conference games thus far (up through last Saturday--70 total games).

I used the correlation coefficient to compare them and their margins to wins and checked out records in given scenarios.

Take a look and throw out any comments or questions you may have.

Certainly shows why KU is a good team.

Looks like UT is borderline good while KSU and ISU are okay.

I know you don't have the numbers for this, but it would be interesting to see if the significance of a correlative factor changes depending on the conference.

For example, defensive categories might have higher correlation in the Big10

Yes, I wondered about the same thing...it would be interesting to see the breakdowns by conference as well as NCAA as a whole.

I wonder if you could do conference rankings by the four factors analysis instead of whatever arbitrary method they use now.

Instead of an RPI ranking of conferences?

I suppose you could but it may not necessarily be indicative of conference strength, i.e. wins and losses.

Then maybe just do it for all teams and rank conferences based on the individual rankings of each team.
