Can this be right?
Only four seasons in school history with 10 or more wins? 2000/14, 2001/13, 1997/10, and of course this year with 10. That's saying we never won 10 games prior to the B12. That is just crazy.

Re: Can this be right?
this season is one of the top in my lifetime. we jsut need a couple more bigtime wins!!!

Re: Can this be right?
In Big 8 play we only had 14 conference games. Pretty tough to go 10-4 during those years, especially when we always struggled on the road.

With how tough we were at home, we'd only have to win three on the road to get to ten if we swept our home games. I know we struggled under Johnny on the road, but you think we'd have done it at least once. Obviously we didn't. Makes this season more special even with the extra games.

We didnt play as many games back in the good ole Big 8 days...
Plus we sucked on the road big time.

Re: Can this be right?
As "great" as some of Johnny Orr's teams were, I think he only had two seasons where he went above .500 in conference. We could beat almost anybody at home, and couldn't beat hardly anybody anywhere else.

It's a simple game in which strategic beauty comes not from being surprised by some new clever trick, but from the sublime, routine brilliance of a master in his element. -

Plus we sucked on the road big time. And that was how hilton magic was born: sucked on the road and were barnburners at home.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Can this be right?

If I recall correctly, the only team in the Big 8 that had a worse overall conference record than ISU during the Johnny Orr era was Colorado.

Re: Can this be right?
I looked the other day...this is only the 8th winning conference season we've had since the start of the Orr Era.
That's EIGHT in over THIRTY years. I didn't even bother going back to look at our records from the Lynn Nance/Ken Trickey years. Kind of depressing to see how much we've struggled over the years.
This is one of the greatest seasons in school history.

In 14 years, Johnny's teams won a grand total of 16 league road games. 16-82.

I remember we'd beat teams at home and lose by 30 at their place within weeks of each other. Our road defense must have been second to none. I love Johnny, but man, that is brutal.

Re: Can this be right?
Hoiberg's senior year we had an RPI in the 20s I think and were 6-8 in conference. Still got a 7 seed. The conference was flat out good that year.
