They do play in a conference where only 2 teams have .500+ overall records, but yes, anytime a team makes it this far into conference play without losing, it's impressive.
Confidence is definitely a big part of it. But, yikes, they had an absolutely brutal non conference schedule. Several roadgames against schools from major conferences. Either that or that conference absolutely sucks.
It's a combo of both. Those teams need to take pay road games to make their athletic budgets work. But they have essentially locked down a conference championship which is great for them. Now they just need to take care of business in their tourney.

Their conference is almost always the worst conference. Computers rank it as worse than the Great West, which doesn't even get a tourney bid until 2020. That being said, going undefeated in any conference is very impressive.
