Prognostication of Next Year's Team
I realize we're in the midst of a very successful season and I'm not getting ahead of myself. But it's hard not to imagine the possibilities for next year.
I was just sifting through the new ESPN PowerRankings and they got me thinking about next year:
Kansas is losing Robinson and Taylor.
Missouri is losing, well, just about everybody.
Baylor is losing Acy, likely both Joneses, and likely Miller.
I don't see any reason why we shouldn't be projected in first. Okie Lite is returning a young athletic team minus Page, Texas has a similarly young team, and Kansas St. has a lot returning too. But it's quite evident - at least to me - that we're the big boy next year. We will have a target on our backs.
I just think we're in for some history next year.
Fun to think of. Can't wait.
Re: Prognostication of Next Year's Team
We have a great chance to something BIG next year. Heck we have a chance to do something big this year.

Think about this for a second.

Which would be relevant if we played in the SEC...

Bah! Good (easy) catch, I clearly haven't gotten used to realignment. Haha, makes our chances all the better. OK.....West Virginia is losing Jones, should be projected in the top 4. TCU, don't know much other than they're making some noise in a tough Mountain West.
But I'm sticking to my guns, we will be projected first.
Re: Prognostication of Next Year's Team
I am most worried about Okie State, Texas, and K-State next year. They will be good and young. Baylor will be good and so will WVU.
Big 12 will be tough, and oh you sure can never count out the reigning 8 time champs KU...
Did I mention the XII will be good next year?

But you will sing a different tune during your game time meltdown...
Re: Prognostication of Next Year's Team
We get zero wins against Mizzou next year. Bank it!

I will say we SHOULD be ranked #1, but it will probably be some of the same old same old. Saying that we have two more transfers in, how will they click, blah blah blah. I don't know if they will give us our due. But I don't care what they say in November, March is all that matters. Except maybe all the games in between. :jimlad:
Re: Prognostication of Next Year's Team
I know it is fun to look ahead, but as a long-time Cyclone fan I know that 20 win seasons don't grow on trees in this program. Hopefully that will change now, but we thought that in 2000 and 2001, too. For now, I am going to live in the moment and save the "I can't waits" for the off season. I would encourage you to enjoy what we've got going right now.
Re: Prognostication of Next Year's Team
If RW returns, and Clyburn and Lucious grab the attention of the media in a good way (realize that Fred can handle the transfers).
We will be a preseason top 3 ream for sure in the XII.
But Velo is absolutely right. Enjoy the fun right now because it has been waaayyyy to long since we have been relevant.
And man does it feel good.
Re: Prognostication of Next Year's Team
We'll have the talent to finish 1st, but we won't be picked first until someone knocks off Kansas. They'll be picked for 1st.

This, this, this, this, and this.
Okie State has some talented dudes already. Freshman-of-the-Year contenders seem to grow on trees at Texas. K-State will be a tough out. WVU is stuffed with freshman this year who should be improved, and Kansas always, always, always reloads.

I wouldn't be surprised with this at all. But it'll be hard to justify. All they return is Elijah Johnson, Withey, and the stud freshman Tharpe. None will be world beaters like Robinson turned into this year. They get a 5 star recruit in Perry Ellis. Maybe kucyclone can chime in at some point and prognosticate Kansas with me, but I don't see enough of a combination of experience/talent there to quite end up in first.
