Side note, i wouldnt mind getting him on the schedule at some point, wherever he's coaching. Also wouldnt mind getting a neighboring-state big 10 team on the schedule again. Liked playing Minnesota a few years ago, would like that again, or NU\ILL would be nice options as well.
I'm pretty sure I heard on one of the radio stations here in Omaha a while back that Osborne didn't want to make a move on Doc until he had a shot to recruit with the new facility, which doesn't open until next season. Take that FWIW I guess.
A friend of mine who has an NU skybox for football told me yesterday that he thinks it's 50-50 whether Sadler will be back. Apparently a big donor (the baseball facility has their name on it) is a big Sadler supporter. However, the average fan wants a change. He said "Sadler has had 6 years and we're HORRIBLE, the worst we've ever been."
**Now get this. He also said Nebraska people have paid very close attention to what ISU has done with Fred Hoiberg and the names of Tyronne Lue and Strickland (I can't remember his first name) are being floated out there as possibilities. Apparently, Strickland is in the Lakers front office and Lue is coaching somewhere. But Strickland has no coaching experience at any level, just like FH. Something tells me this wouldn't work out nearly as well for them as it did for ISU!
I think LE would be better off staying at SoMiss than going to NU. Yes he would be in a top conference, but even if he did succeed, noone at NU would care. He'd be much better off at Illinois or somewhere that at leasts pretends to care about B-Ball.
Don't see Larry in Lincoln. I just don't think he will fit there. Also, Nebraska has proven time after time that you can't win in Lincoln if your the home team, I don't think Sadler is going to make a difference.
Fans are the problem here. Unrealistic expectations in football which results in running coaches out of town like stray dogs. All other sports get the fair weather treatment. Tavern Huskers during the winter it would seem.
I don't see who in their right mind would want to coach the program. Total losing situation. I think Doc is about the best they can hope for. Decent coach who will have to make due with subpar talent, disinterested fan base, and the right composure to deal with rabid media. Who would want that? Even with a new facility and cash infusion into the program I can't see someone like Larry taking the program over. Who knows though.
I wonder if Danny Nee is available?
Keep in mind that Nebby MBB has themselves in a bind. Sadler has his contract extended through 2016 (I believe), and would cost the University millions of dollars to get rid of him. Not sure if that's a move that their Lord and Savior Tom Osborne wants to go through...yet if he keeps him around another year, it's his *** on the hot seat.
Nice to see dysfunction in one of America's (well...Iowa's, at least) hated college sports programs.
I see Tim Floyd getting a nod before Larry. Floyd's a much better coach & recruiter..
...he also ready has a victory over this year.
I would love to see Eustachy in the Big 10. I think he would be pretty successful at either Nebraska or Illinois.
Who knows. But usually AD's listen to the big $ donors, not the average fan.
