Tentative Cyclone Alley for 2012-2013 season
I was talking with people from CA and they have already agreed tentatively (they stressed that no means is any of this guaranteed so I'll repeat NONE IS GUARANTEED) on some things for next season. - No shirt required to sit below (gonna figure out a system to make sure its students).
- OVERSELL tickets (by a large margin)
- One student entrance to facilitate the overselling (turn away if they have to).
- Props coming back (if they can get sponsors, this was the idea this year but no sponsors stepped up).
- Rewards Program is still gonna be here
They also said that the transfer of tickets is an Athletic Department thing not a CA thing. But they have voiced their opinion against it.
Also, this is by no means the end of the list either, they are still working on things to do as well.
Thoughts? I think it'll work out well...

Who else was there during the change over? I was in school pre CA, and then for the start of CA when we still had GA on one side. It was amazing the differences between the sides. I was a member of CA, but once I noticed the type of "fans" who were involved in CA, we always went to the GA side wearing whatever we wanted.
I think it's sad that even the pro CA people on here say the only reason it exists is to drain money out of the students to the SAA.

I like the oversell portion. I missed out on CA...just barely. When I was in school, a student ticket rotated. Upper deck, parquet, arena circle...and it was glorious. The students intermingled with the general population and alumni brought energy to the entire arena.
The problem with it could have been some students may have felt they couldn't be uninhibited in such a situation (it wasn't a problem for me), and I beleive that was one of the reason's for CA....put all students together, and just let them go at it. This, however, did not happen, from what I've been told. CA morphed into a herd of sheep...inhibitions controlled and contrived.
Fundamentally, I agree with students sitting together, but only if it is Thunder Dome
Over-selling COULD improve this, but it would have to be carefully managed, because it could end up the death of the student section too.
If over-selling, is there anyway to have a twitter or Facebook page that could instantaneously report on the chances of a student being shut out?
Just brainstorming here, because the students are vitally important...the life blood of any home court advantage. Need to get those animals in the building, and let them act like animals...IMHO.

I also like the thinking "well student sections work at this school and that school and that school" as if CA didn't exist the student would have no impact on the game.

The only thing that will cause any sort of improvement is the overselling. Students and their general sense of disinterest towards the basketball program compared to football are at fault. I personally am in favor in lots of the things cyclone alley does. They cannot improve the excitement over the games, that is the fan base's responsibility. You guys don't realize they are on your side trying to make basketball games better for everybody. Coming from a student, blame the students, not cyclone alley.

I always felt the non CA side did not cheer as loud as the CA side when they were split. I was there pre and current CA as well. I don't know what type of people drove others away, but I was the stand and cheer the whole game type.

The only thing CA would do is props and the intermission 'entertainment' neither are vital nor detrimental to Hilton...

Otherwise, those things are pretty lame.
That one where they eliminate one student at a time after they all run down and shoot layups is sort of fun. One time, 3-4 years ago, some kid sealed his win with a dunk.
Given the team of that season, it was one of the only Cyclone dunks we saw that year.

Overselling creates all sorts of new headaches.

If CA had a decent prop that day I'd go get it, then return to the GA side where things were rowdy and we led the arena (including CA) in cheers and yelling. CA isn't completely evil (mostly a particular year of CAC) but it never was as rowdy as the GA section... even when we were better
Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy
