    Re: seeding for big dance

If you are playing like a 4 seed, does it really matter if the committee makes you a 7? Not really.

At least the BS about ISU being on the bubble can stop. That was a ridiculous for argument for the last three weeks, to anyone who had watched this team play.

Our guys are a dangerous bunch, I'm tellin ya.

    Re: seeding for big dance

I love that we're even having this conversation instead of wrapping up another 15 win campaign. I'd guess that right now we're still stuck in the 8 seed range. Of course it'll depend on what some of the other teams do between now and next Sunday, but I'm thinking a win over UT gets us a 7 seed and a second tourney win moves us up to a 6. Or we could just win the whole damn thing for the hell of it and see what that does for seeding.

I will take anything other than an 8-9 that is not 13 and above. If we get a 10 seed I'd be happier than getting the 8/9.

Currently, Lunardi has us as a 8 seed, but he has Memphis as a 7 seed. Scratching my head on that one....

    Re: seeding for big dance

Not being ranked all year means ISU will still be under the radar come tourney time. This team has not gotten the respect it deserves for splitting with KU, splitting with Baylor, Sweeping Kstate and splitting with Texas add the two losses to Mizzou and that's 4-4 against other tourney caliber teams with two wins over the supposed elite. I doubt they will all of the sudden get respect from the tourney committee no matter the outcome in b12 tourney. 6-8 seems like the range. The best team in Cyclone history got screwed with a 2 seed in the same bracket as the best 1 seed.

Off-track a little (on my part): I love that we're selling the whole place out and SRO tickets on the last game of the regular season. I love that people weren't in a hurry to leave. I love that we're looking forward to better things yet based on what the team actually did, instead of just hoping that we'll be better next year.

I think we have to make it to the Big XII tourney championship game to get above a 7 unfortunately. The ESPN article on the game last night says we are finally safe as a lock for making it into the tourney. Baylor Bears vs. Iowa State Cyclones - Recap - March 03, 2012 - ESPN

    Definitely possible though.

    Re: seeding for big dance

You guys need to consider who we are playing in the tourney and not just the win itself./

    Now- 7 seed
    Beat Texas- 7 seed
    Beat MU- 6 Seed
Beat KU- 4 or 5 seed

If we beat two top ten teams in a row and 3 top ten teams in 4 games, you can bet your *** we go up at least two or three seeds.
"He is the toughest I have ever been around, physically and mentally," Burnham said. "You can beat him down but you’re not going to beat him out. He’s got the mindset of, ‘If you’re going to get me out of this game, you’re going to have to kill me.’ That’s about where he is."

Losing to Texas would be bad and probably get us to a solid eight, possible seven. I prefer to be a solid seven...duh.

    Re: seeding for big dance

Our RPI is 30 according to CBS.

That should place us as a 7-8 seed. Im hoping that we can beat Texas and get a 7

We are going to be a very hard team to turn around and play 48 hours later.

I don't see ISU getting worse than an 8, worst case scenario. Best case is probably a 4.

    Re: seeding for big dance

If we assume ISU is in 8 range now, you also have to consider what other teams are nearby, which are 6 & 7, what others could move up with a big win or drop with a bad one.

Too many combinations and I won't try to speculate what it would require — depends on tournament pairings & such. But it isn't simply an isolated situation of how Iowa State does in its tournament.

We need to get out of the first round before we'd play a high seed ya know. Don't look past anyone in the tournament.
