You really think Hoiberg is a better coach than Roy Williams and Mike Kryzkevski (sp)?

Way too early in CFH career to even bring up those names - but it would be fun to see how they did their first two season and compare.
I could only dream that CFH could do things that Roy and K have done for their programs.

    Re: CFH = COY

Huh? Why should the COY go to the coach that finishes the year way above where he is expected to finish?

So if a team like KU is predicted to finish 1st (as they often are), Bill Self would never win COY!

Give Fred an award for most improved coach or best turnaround if you have to. But COY, POY etc should basically come down to championships. It is simple about winning. Not winning more than you did in the past, but winning more than other coaches in the present.

    Re: CFH = COY

So if you are expected to finish number one, and you do finish one, you should not get COY because you did not finish higher than number one?

    Disagree COMPLETELY.

COY should be what it says it is, the guy who did the best job of coaching his team for the year. Same for POY. That doesn't necessarily get judged only by wins or championships.

If championships are the only thing relevant they don't even need to have those awards. Just a championship trophy.

No, it's about coaching. Each of the three have significant accomplishments in that regard:

Self: Lost a ton of talent and still won the league

Haith: Lost a talented big, took over a very experienced team, but did extremely well with them in his first year

Hoiberg: Built a team from scratch from a program that was literally bottomed out, and brought in immediate talent that he somehow molded into one of the top teams in the league.

    All three have good cases.

If anything, those losses early say something about his coaching job this year. Took a team that was a loser to Drake and UNI at the beginning of the year all the way to beating 2 top 10 teams, and finishing #3 in the big 12.
Exactly. We are a completely different team than we were pre big 12 play. It's funny how I have a sense of confidence going into the tourney, I really think we will take the whole thing.

I think the transfer aspect should play a big part in it. How many people said this wasn't gonna work and we were assembling a team of thugs. He molded them into a pretty unselfish team.

That's funny, because I've been thinking that we win at least two, and then whatever happens on Saturday happens. I'm holding off (temporarily) from going in thinking that we win the whole thing.

But let's face it, my posting history suggests that I'll be there no later than tomorrow.

    He was yesterday.

We're not talking about who has better talent, we're talking managing a game and making the right moves.

    Yesterday's scoreboard:

    (1)Hoiball
    (2)Deputy Dawg
    (3)Alphabet Soup

God I hope so. I have been thinking about revenge on Mizzou all night. It's gonna feel great finally beating them, in KC, the last time their fans have an easy drive to their conference tournament. It will be nice kicking their *** out of the conference

Me, too. I want to be the one that sends them packing, and I want that win over the only team we haven't beaten. I really want Missouri, and I just know that we can handle them.

Billy Gillespie won just 8 games in the league at aTm and was COY in 04-05.

Fred did a better job this year than that!
