Transportation Costs to Tournament Sites
I was researching the costs of going to the tournament at each of the sites and bookmarking accordingly. I made this spreadsheet to help me out and I thought I would share in case you were wondering if you could make it or not.
How these were calculated:
ALL WERE ONE-WAY TRIPS leaving Monday, March 12.
Megabus: Des Moines to Chicago then from there (Except Omaha) - Megabus.com
Amtrak: Cost of Megabus to Chicago ($25) then from there - Amtrak.com
Driving: 16MPG Truck from Ames (this will change dramatically if you have a better car) - Gasbuddy.com
Greyhound: Departing from Ames - Greyhound
Flying: Departing from Des Moines - Kayak.com

What kind of idiot would fly commercial from Des Moines to Omaha? Of course the price is high. They don't want people that stupid on airplanes.

I just did it for the laughs... of course no one would fly.
Re: Transportation Costs to Tournament Sites
Oh and I found out Greyhound does a $10-12 Ames to Des Moines and its only a 15 minute walk from the Greyhound to Megabus stops.
Is there free parking anywhere in downtown?

Nice chart. I'm an excel geek, so I appreciate this type of thing
And I've flown from Ames to Omaha while in college. We had to escort some bigwig for some hoighty toighty event. Pretty short flight, as I recall
