In K.C. Wonder if Iowa State will outdraw everyone Self ignites firestorm over city's allegiances
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

Does Missouri lose fans playing in the SEC? I don't see them gaining that is for sure.

Re: Bill Self basically saying Missouri has no fan support
What he is saying is that there are more KU fans in KC than misery fans and he is right. KSU, I don't know but that could be true also. KC is definitely a KU town, especially when you are talking basketball and that is what he was talking about. Self subtext: In any case, KC remains a Big 12 town, not an SEC town so why not have the Big 12 tourney 45 minutes from Lawrence.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr -

I do like how the closest school the KC will not be participating in the big 12 tourny their after this year. What a boneheaded decision for them to join the SEC.

Re: Bill Self basically saying Missouri has no fan support
When I was living in the KC area it was a KU town during basketball season and an KSU town during football season.

Re: Bill Self basically saying Missouri has no fan support
When bowl games are regularly taking teams like ISU and Kansas over you...with WORSE records...it means your fans suck or you have no fans.
Missouri is just not a college sports state. It's a state for fans of MLB, NFL and NASCAR.
I'm sure Missouri will be more of an afterthought in KC than they already are very soon.

The second closest school (KSU, 4 miles shorter on google maps) will be competing in the big 12 tourney in KC after this year.
The 4th closest school (ISU) is only about 100 miles farther than Mizzou.
Still a bad decision for them to leave, but just a misconception that needs to be cleared. Just because KC is in Missouri doesnt mean the University of Missouri is its closest school, and it is still THE BEST location for the big 12 to hold its championships.

I'm sure Missouri will be more of an afterthought in KC than they already are very soon. This is exactly what my MU friend says. He's really the only rational MU person I've talked to (says Haith didn't deserve COY, thinks SEC move is dumb, etc). He says this is why MU fans are cocky as well. If there was another major university they wouldn't be as ignorant. Missouri is a Royals/Cardinals and Chiefs state. I would ad Rams but don't know if they have a lot of fans.

Re: Bill Self basically saying Missouri has no fan support
Self ignites debate over KC's college allegiances - KansasCity.com
This article from Blair Kirkhoff has some numbers from the alumni associations of each school:
KU 57,000
KSU 28,000
MU 25,000
The numbers are just alumni, and do not cover tavern-tiger fans, etc. However, with those lopsided alumni figures in favor of Self's point, one has to figure the actual numbers are proportional.

Re: Bill Self basically saying Missouri has no fan support
I grew up right on the mizzou border and remember seeing all kinds of mizzou flags, shirts, etc.......oh wait no I don't, I NEVER saw that. For having only 1 major university in the state, they have horrible support.
