Positive Comments from last night...
With all the stink that's going around this board right now I wanted to shine some light on a couple comments that were made by the announcers of last night's game.
- "How did Babb not make the All-Defensive Team?"
- Babb is the best perimeter defender in the Big 12, one of them said rivals the best in the country.
- White is extremely articulate
- White is a guy who marches to the beat of his own drum.
- 7 degrees in Ames one time and Royce was wearing Cargo Pants and Flip Flops.
- Iowa State is the worst matchup of any team in the NCAA Tourney
- Iowa State could win gameS in the tourney (emphasis on the plural part of that)
There were others but I can't remember them off the top of my head.
So amidst all this crap you guys are saying, remind yourselves this is a good team.
Re: Positive Comments from last night...
Yeah, I thought the announcers were very complimentary, and particularly enjoyed the respect that they gave to the job that Chris Babb was doing.
Re: Positive Comments from last night...
A lot of things went horribly wrong and the game was tied with 40 seconds remaining.

Same here, I think Babb did great. You can't defend FTs...
Re: Positive Comments from last night...
Was happy to hear the announcers wondering why Babb was left off the All Big 12 defensive squad. They gave him a lot of praise for the role he played throughout the season and last night...a lot of mentions about how well he was face guarding Brown and making sure he earned his points at the line and on tough shots.

That's one of the positives that I'm hanging on to this morning. Texas was playing as if their lives depended on it, we played one of our sloppier games in quite some time, and it still went down to the wire. If we play like we can, there's no reason that we can't make a deep run in the tournament.
Re: Positive Comments from last night...
i love McGee hustle.
Its a shame Babb is not 1st team defense.
Royce is a great player who loves to pass, but he needs to become selfish in the late minutes and take his man to the hole. And not shoot 3's
I think were going to come out ready to play next game..

Ejim too. It's probably not a coincidence that we struggled when our two high energy/make something happen guys were saddled with foul trouble.
Re: Positive Comments from last night...
I think Freddy will come out with a better game plan to get Scotty and Babb open for 3's.. Texas did a good job of getting on Scotty when he had the ball or when he was coming off screens.

This! For playing as poorly as we did last night, we were still in the game. I thought we played well for about 25 minutes and poorly for the remaining 15. There was very little middle ground. If we play well for another 5 minutes we likely would have won that game. If our team plays well for 40 minutes, they can play with any team in the country.

The biggest thing we lose with Melvin and McGee on the bench is offensive rebounding. Even if they don't get it, they keep the ball alive for a teammate.
The fourth on Mel was brutal. Three steps (at least) before the Texas guy crashes into him. Ummmmm.....travel first negates the foul, you dopes.

Yeah, I counted 4 steps on the replay, with the fourth happening about the time he ran into Melvin.

I was encouraged that, when we were down 6 with 3:30 to go, our defense tightened up, Allen made some things happen, and we made some shots to force a tie. A shame they couldn't maintain that intensity for the last 40 seconds.
Re: Positive Comments from last night...
Ejim and McGee combined to play a season low of just 24 minutes due to foul trouble. Previous low since the start of conference play was 38 in the home game with Texas.
They are our two best guys when it comes to crashing the offensive glass, getting loose balls, and making hustle plays. Their presence was missed...a lot.
Not only that, it also messed up the whole rotation.

This is it basically. We played terribly for about half the game and were still in contention in the final stretch. Texas played with a sense of urgency when they went down by 11 at the 17 minute mark. You could see Brown basically was telling them in the timeout, "Do you want your season to end right here? Because, it's going to if you don't do something." We came out and proceeded to sleepwalk for the next 12 minutes and they kicked our rears.
