I thought about this the other day. Iowa State got a ton of exposure for beating Okie State in football. How do you think the exposure would compare if we were to knock off the defending champs and the #1 team in the nation in one weekend?
Earlier in the basketball season I read that we were the only team to beat a top 5 football team and a top 5 basketball team. Does anyone know if this is still true?
Ok State. Not even close. With that win, we messed up the biggest money making sport in college.
Now if we get to the final 4....then maybe its closer.
This would be the only thing close, beating a #1 seed isn't a big deal. Surprise teams make the sweet 16 almost every year, no one remembers those runs. They get overshadowed by teams like Butler, George Mason and VCU making the final 4.
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan.
Beating UK. People from all over still talk about UNI beating KU. Allie Frakemadesh...how ever you spell is name. Brackets would be destroyed and ISU would be loved by many.
Thats why I said beating both of them. Honestly beating Kentucky alone wouldn't be all of the exposure it would be knocking off the defending champs and the odds-on-favorite to win it all in back to back games.
Oklahoma State for sure, but I love the fact that Iowa State is being heavily discussed in the northeast, where we've been laying down tracks on the recruiting trail lately.
My vote is beating UCONN and Kentucky. We could go quite a ways then. Even if we did beat Okie State, we were going to a lesser bowl. And we were called lucky with little respect around the country.
The bball would be two wins on a neutral court and we could not be called lucky.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.
People still talk about UNI beating Kansas 2 years ago. Maybe if we beat Kentucky in dramatic fashion (I'm looking at you Scotty)...if not, then Okie State.
Getting to the sweet sixteen cause it will have a longer lasting impact on people's minds. And I imagine beating Kentucky in basketball does a lot more for the basketball program than beating oSu does for the football program. Decent chance very few people remember who beat oSu last season.
OSU bigger without a doubt. We got pub for it for 2 months, and will continue to be mentioned as one of the biggest end of season upsets for several years. Bonus if you consider that game got us a bowl game and the exposure it brought.
Though if we got to the sweet 16 beating UK, in combination with the OSU game people would certainly be going 'wtf is in the water in Ames'

The coaching factor.
