This. He gives a lot of credit to Iowa State. In his book, he doesn't hate on Iowa State, the complaining is directed at his teammates for not caring about the team as a whole. I'm sure a lot of people on this board have co-workers, bosses, professors, members of group projects etc. that you don't like to work with.
I, for one, like the article; Shed's some light as to why that team flamed out at the end of the year.

If things were so bad at the end, step up and pull people together. You were a SENIOR starter on the team. Demonstrate some leadership.
That is very true. I don't understand why he brought this article out now. It definitely was all about him. He gave a few sentences of thought towards this year's team, and the rest was about how terrible his career was. He should blame himself partly for not stepping up as a senior.

LE has moved on, cleaned up, and hopefully found peace. We have moved on and have healed. I wish Paul would move on and heal too.
What wopuld he have to write about at this point then? He is a blogger.

This. My most vivid memory of PS, bawling like a little girl.

He wanted to win. Larry wanted to coach someone else. The end of that season still pisses me off. Larry wasn't ready for the big time.
Re: Paul Shirley in the DMR about end of 2001 season
Of course that was Tinsley's team, is he serious with that?

It's been a long, hard road back for both he and ISU basketball. To paraphrase Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven, "Deserve's got nothin' to do with it." But both LE and ISU basketball both deserve something good to happen this weekend.
Re: Paul Shirley in the DMR about end of 2001 season
Not reading all posts, but don't take this as gospel. Paul is a cry baby and is full of it, and himself. He tries to tie it together in the end, but he is still just whining and crying (literally). Such a donkey.

Talking about the MSU game, pretty sure LE wanted that win too.
Re: Paul Shirley in the DMR about end of 2001 season
Paul has been bitter in his post Iowa State career. He comes across as pretty mean.
That being said, anyone who watched him after that Hampton game, realizes that AT THAT TIME he did care that they lost. I don't doubt what he wrote. Hell, Larry has said this year that he didn't allow those teams to enjoy what they were doing and he regrets that.
Second, I thought the essay was kind of nice. He wished Larry well. And he had nice things to say about Iowa State and Hoiberg.
Re: Paul Shirley in the DMR about end of 2001 season
I will add that I think LE and Paul need to sit down together and discuss this. It would be good for LE's continuing recovery, and Paul needs to consider forgiving him at this point.

That said it is time for Paul to let it go. And for some of you to let go the love for LE and the hatred of anyone who has a negative story about the guy...
Some of the LE haters could let it go too... notably Go2guy, who is bound to show up if you say Eustachy 3 times. LE wasn't perfect (in fact, he had plenty of issues, and he wouldnt disagree if you said so), but he also gave us 2 of the best years in Iowa State history.
Agreed Paul needs to let it go... seems once a year we get another column by him complaining about his experience here. We get it already. 10 years seems a bit long to hold a grudge.
