NBA Draft Projections

Just got updated today and sure enough, after how he played this past weekend, he is finally getting some recognition and in a week goes from not on the board to a 1st round projection. I'd love to see it work out for him to be a first rounder and lock up some cash, NEXT YEAR!!!!

Honestly though, if he will go anywhere in the first round he should go. He has a lot of things he seems to want to accomplish in life and that NBA money will help. Take it while it is there.

How the hell is Drummond still a top 5 pick? He did nothing in the first(second) round game. Does a top 5 pick just disappear?

NBA drafts on potential... not how good you are right now.

Look at DeAndre Jordan from Texas AM.

It is risky but some people would prefer to go in the late first round because you're going to a team usually that can afford to be patient and has some stability within the organization. I know I'd rather go 27th to the Spurs than to some of the teams from 10-20.

Royce's stock is at an all-time high right now, with that projection having him in the second round of the 2013 draft a few days ago. Many of the issues GMs have with Royce are not going away (his past, anxiety, etc.). All he can gain is coming back with a jumpshot, which in my mind might lead to him taking more 15 footers and going away from what he is good at (ala Craig Brackens).

In all, if he's a first round pick, take the money and run.

My point was more that an audition season for the NBA where you try to show scouts that your weaknesses are actually strengths can be dangerous.

Yeah, this whole thought of drafting solely on potential as opposed to actual, you know, production is one of the reasons why I just can't get excited about the NBA, even though I love watching basketball in general.

As for Royce, selfishly on my part I hope he sticks around for at least one more year, but he has a fan for life in me after meeting him last weekend, so whatever he decides to do he will have my full support.

There are two completely different questions and this truth that Brackins can hit an open shot is a key point.

1. There's the question of if he's going to be drafted high enough to get guaranteed first round money and financial security that comes with that.

2. There's the question of if he'll see playing time with.

Unless you are Shaq, you don't see the court much in the NBA if you can't hit an open shot from 10-15 feet. You're a free pass to double team and every team has a giant clogging the lane so Royce's moves to the basket won't be as deadly as they are now. I can't remember the last time I saw a 6'7" player in the NBA getting a lot of playing time with Royce's shooting ability. There are players with ugly shots, but they work on them till they're at a decent % or they don't see the floor.

I hope Royce does it, my personal opinion is that if we ever see him play 10+ minutes a game again, it will be because he looks like a completely different player who can hit an open shot. If he can't become that different player, it's quite possible we've seen his last full game unless he comes back to ISU next year (and that's a different point than if he gets paid).

You got to remember that Drummond was still suppose to be in HS this year and came to UCONN a year early. That's tough for big men. They take longer. But he is huge and athletic.

I think the bigger shock is Jeremy Lamb at #6. There are a lot of guys behind him that I would take over him

Just don't think of the NBA like the NFL.

There are only two rounds in the draft. Half of the players in the second round never really become NBA players and tons of successful players in the league were never draft picks at all.

I do see how someone who's an NFL draft junkie or a college recruiting junky could have a buzzkill over the NBA draft though. There's way less meat to it. It's basically a way for teams to grab the 20 most talented college kids (RW fighting to be in this number), 20 obviously less talented college kids who seem to be a lock as NBA role players and the 5-10 most valuable foreign prospects. Compared to other drafts with 100s of players it's not very complex.

I'm an NBA first fan and scratch my head at Lamb at #6 and KU's Taylor at #60.
