If a coach puts his players in a position to make guaranteed first round money for two years, most would probably suspect any failures to be on the part of the player.
However, if a coach advises a player with two years of college eligibility left to enter that draft, and that players falls into the second round, I see that being a rather significant black eye for the coach.

Have to disagree on the list of all-time great cyclones as well. I appreciate all that Royce has done in his two years here, but for me you need to make contributions on the court for at least two years, before you're considered next to guys like Fred, Hornacek, Cato, Grayer, Stevens, Jamaal, Fizer, and Sullivan.
Hilton Coliseum was specifically built to hold in sound with a solid concrete structure, steel doors, and a crowd that sits just a few feet from the court. With a fan base that frequently ranks among the nations largest crowds, players from opposing teams, as well as Iowa State, have said that the floor has shaken due to the loudness of the crowd -

The player who will benefit the most from this latest development? Percy Gibson. He showed as a true freshman this year that he can be a real factor, and I know he was getting impatient about playing time. He, Booker, Georges Niange (sp?) are all going to get the opportunity to help fill some big shoes next year.

RW did just as much in 1 year for ISU (resurrecting from the hell McValley) days as many of those guys on the list.

His defensive awareness, passing, and physical abilities should all improve. Between him and Niang, I think we will have two very capable low-post scorers for several years to come. Our offense will look very different in coming years from what it did this year. My biggest concern for next year is whether our three-point shooting will be good enough to keep teams honest on defense. The loss of our two best three-point shooters could hurt more than we expect it to.

Re: Positive of Royce going pro
I hate this. I hate this for Royce, I hate this for Iowa State. He is not ready for the NBA. Every time Iowa State is about to get over the hump and really do something special this happens. whether it is somebody leaving for NBA, or somebody leaving the program, or the one great recruit not coming here, or a missed field goal, or a terrible call at the goal line. every time. It is getting really old. I just wish we could get some talent that actually wants to stay long enough, or come to Iowa State to turn us into a powerhouse. I feel like we have been so close before. I think that is why Royce is not one of the greatest cylclones of all time. I just don't think leading a team to the round of 32 puts you in that conversation. He has the opportunity to be a legend, but would rather be a maybe first round draft choice. I don't get it. a million dollars today, or multimillion dollars and legend status in multiple states, where you could get any job you wanted to after basketball. I would choose the 2nd option. But I actually care about Iowa State and the state of Iowa, so maybe that is where I differ.

Email JP and tell him that Fred has no idea what he is talking about when he says "I know what it takes to get to the NBA"

Short term...a hit. Long term...very positive for ISU. This is a good thing. We'll still be very good next year and the future is still extremly bright.

Incorrect-It is not to put 4 or 5 star players in the NBA. On the contrary, his job also is to help these young men prepare for the next step in their life-whether that be entering the work force, playing professinally or remaining in school after their eligibility ends to help them achieve their degree.
