Re: Where does Royce rank?
For me(like others have said), it depends on how we define "rank".
I think long-term, Fred, Gary Thompson, and Royce may be at the top if you look at long term impact and meaning to the program. If Royce keeps a special place for Ames/ISU in his heart like he says and stays engaged with the ISU community, he'll be hard to top.

I agree... I'd put Royce in about the Stinson category, maybe a little lower based on only 1 year. Royce is most likely a better player but Stinson played a major role for 3 years.
+1
Tinsley's impact on the court the 2 years he was here is amazing.
Cato was another player who made a big impact from day 1, He made his ISU team a very good defensive team.
I think the real impact Royce might have on the program is that CFH can build off what Royce did this year.

Re:Where does Royce rank?
Just asking-has anyone else led the team in 5 offensive categories?? I don't care if only played 1 yr. He will go down as a legend

1.Gary Thompson
2.Abdul Azid
3/Barry Stephens
4.Fred
5.Jeff Grayer
6.Jeff Hornacek
7.Jamal Tinsley
8.Marcus Fizer
9.Johnny
10. Curtis
11. Royce?
He made a huge splash in a year, but the others above him won more, had less in of a program to start with, etc.

Re: Where does Royce rank?
ok didn't win a big 12 championship, didn't get to sweet 16 or elite 8, never won a big 12 tournament game, so not very high on all time greats, but he wil be a great role model for ISU

Did you leave Fred out for a reason? Nope, put him at 4, that would be the guy named Fred. -
Re: Where does Royce rank?
Not on a talent level but for purely being a great Cyclone it is hard not to put Rashon on my list somewhere. Talent wise Royce is totally up there, it is just tough because he was only here for the year and we are all naturally suckers of the moment.

Re: Where does Royce rank?
You younger people think you can rank who is number one and who is number two, etc. with authority. Just keep your traps shut it you're not including Bill Cain and The Big Dipper in the convo. If you haven't seen more than Stinson forward you don't know squat. Curtis Stinson is better than Jeff Hornacek. Yeah right.
Don't know who The Big Dipper is? That's my point and it proves you shouldn't be ranking these guys. -
Re: Where does Royce rank?
Someone said Royce is on Brackins level. Brackins would be helping Royce get his tennis on if they were ever in the same locker room.
Brackins left with none of the interior moves that Royce has and can do nothing Royce can't except hit a J. -
Re: Where does Royce rank?
Since this is the only Royce thread going on the front page at the moment- BLOG: Good Luck Royce White – 'An Uncommon Man' - West Des Moines, IA Patch
" His professionalism throughout the ISU season provided me with someone I could point out to the kids of our YMCA as a role model. One of Royce's main goals in life is to help people. Being the commissioner of league, I was fortunate enough to land Royce on my team in the draft and I enjoyed every moment of the 10-game summer league.
Royce is not only a one-of-a-kind talent, but is also the most engaging and genuine young man I've worked with in my five years coaching in the league.
I've had the opportunity to coach some great players and people such as Wes Johnson (Minnesota Timberwolves) and Harrison Barnes (North Carolina), among many others. These players were impressive people in various ways but, other than Josh Young from Drake, Royce was the first person to truly engage with the fans in the stands and individual kids who looked up to him - not just in conversations about basketball but anything."
