What does it take to get your number retired?

What does it take to get you your number and name hung in Hilton? What players from the past deserves it? Does years played, stats and titles play a factor?

I think Fizer and DW deserve their numbers retired in Hilton.

Bingo. Being a solid student-athlete. I don't believe there are clear rules as to what a player must do or not do to have their jersey retired, but generally graduating and kicking butt. I think Scottie would be bound to have his jersey retired if he didn't start at Marquette.

have to graduate. Did Tinsley not graduate? I would think that if he did he would have got his number retired.
"He is the toughest I have ever been around, physically and mentally," Burnham said. "You can beat him down but you’re not going to beat him out. He’s got the mindset of, ‘If you’re going to get me out of this game, you’re going to have to kill me.’ That’s about where he is."

Are the jerseys in the rafters actually retired numbers? Or just a jersey in the rafters?

Even then, SC only had two years playing big time minutes. Look at what Hoiberg had to do to get his retired.

FH was the hometown boy but was not the best guard in ISU history.

Thats debatable, but yes being the home town kid certainly made it a lock for him. And well deserved.

People forget, Scotty played a year with mono. Where have you ever heard of anyone doing that? Tough kid, great Cyclone.

Re: What does it take to get your number retired?

I loved the team this year but none of them merit number retirement. Their runs here were too short. Plus, I think life after college out to play a role as well. That's why Tinsley will never qualify.
