Nobody good redshirts? If you say so...
I agree it is definitely a red flag, but it depends on the program, and the kid. Wiscy is a pretty good/deep team and Uthoff was trying to bulk up to play the 4. In this instance, I don't think it should hold us back from recruiting him, since we play a radically different style of basketball than Wiscy.
I think you are on to something.... I think Bo is pulling a Jedi mind trick.... By not releasing him, he is raising the attention, and making his value go up. This will attract the interest of more and better schools.... Soon Kentucky, Duke, UNC, Syracuse will be in a battle-royale over this kid. Then Bo will allow him to go wherever he wants. He will be a 3 year practice player, and Bo will have the last laugh... muwhahahah... (Feel free to add an evil laughing Bo meme)
Essentially he would have another entire year to bulk up, which by all account is why he didn't play in the first place.
Also, based on Bo's response in trying to block every single option for him, I would say that Bo thinks he'll be a good player when it's all said and done.
I believe Fred is on the verge of something huge here. Royce wont be the last guy to get to the NBA under this staff. I dont want potential kids that hang around and maybe are decent by year 4.
With all due respect, Fred's had 1 NBA player and likely there is only one more on our roster currently.
WE HAVE room for a guy like Uthoff who maybe ends up being a solid player, but not a star that goes to the NBA.
Pretty much our entire roster consists of players that would fit that category, save Clyburn and Royce White.
CyVet not really a fair question since redshirting is unusual in the current era of college basketball. One point that I think you are missing is Ryan, at least according to Wisconsin media last fall, wanted him to play not redshirt. According to reports at the time he wanted to redshirt to build his frame and game since he was not likely to be a key contributor this year.
I think I will let Fred decide who he wants and who he doesn't, rather than post publicly that I don't want a guy.
Besides anyone who even in jest has a Hawkeye coach as the avatar loses all credibility for having good judgement.
