Future of ISU men's bball recruiting
Is picking up good transfers before NBA bound going to be our forte for recruiting for the long term? Seems to be working....

Re: Future of ISU men's bball recruiting
I don't think there are a whole lot of transfers who are NBA bound, Royce was a bit of a one off. If they are NBA bound, why would they transfer as opposed to opting into the draft. -
Re: Future of ISU men's bball recruiting
I don't know if I would call it our "forte" but I think Fred will just keep an open mind in the recruiting process. This along with a keen eye for talant will have us right where we want to be most years.

I would say no. We have Royce. Clyburn has NBA potential but not a lock. I'm not sure I would call 1 or 2 that much of a trend.

I think Freddie will take the best players available in any given year, but will build the program using primarily freshmen.

It likely won't be our forte long term for the following reason. We will get two solid classes with a lot of freshman in 2012 and 2013. After this, there will be far less potential transfers out there where it is beneficial for both parties for the player to transfer to Iowa State. A team more desperate for talent will take the mantle of "Transfer U".

Royce, Wes Johnson, Alex oriahki, clyburn, so many others that are in nba already or will be. If transfers is our ticket to 5 star players then I say let's keep doing it.

He's not too far off in what he said for 99% of the transfers. Obviously we'll always probably find a spot for the 1%'ers or even guys like Babb, Allen, etc who aren't NBA caliber, but can help us win.

I think we'll just recruit Michigan State.

Re: Future of ISU men's bball recruiting
I think we will do much like this year. Have a solid freshmen class coming in and then get transfers now if other people leave or transfer out.

Re: Future of ISU men's bball recruiting
I think that Freddie is ahead of the curve on the transfers. This is the new world of NCAA basketball. Few players play 4 years at a school anyway (good or bad). You cannot afford to wait 3 years for Freshman to contribute IMO. That does not mean we should not recruit HS kids, just need to be able to make early contributions (see...Ejim and Percy)

Re: Future of ISU men's bball recruiting
I like it. Take one or two a year. A lot of good talent on the transfer wire. It's also a good way to shorten the bench in a way. You're never going to play all 13 guys regularly anyways.

And why not with what Fred can do for you.
