I think the rules are over-the-top, but I recognize that it is incredibly difficult to prevent misuse of the booster relationship.
Here is what http://www.cyclones.com//pdf5/130744...B_OEM_ID=10700 says about extra benefits:
A permissible benefit a booster can be involved
with is an occasional meal. Student-athletes are
permitted to attend an occasional meal hosted
by a booster. Occasional meals must be held
in the home of the booster, not at any other
location, but may be catered. Additionally, the
Athletics Compliance Office must approve
all occasional meals in advance. Occasional
meals are permissible for student-athletes only.
Prospects and their relatives or friends are not
permitted to receive occasional meals.

I'm being silly, but when I think about it, this seems like a believable detail from the NCAA rulebook.

Prospects and their relatives or friends are not
permitted to receive occasional meals. Seems reasonable. Then it brings the next question: How do they define "occasional"?

Can't be anything over PG 13, can't star Sandra Bullock, nothing over a medium popcorn unless they share it in which case a large may be substituted but then you can't have artificial butter flavored topping on it.

Can I give a high school player's parents a burger if they park next to my tailgate before a game?

As long as the rules are clear, I have no problem with it. -

Re: off the wall ?
So if you date a student athlete you can't buy them dinner? Or a Christmas gift?
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan. -

I would think being a student and/or having season tickets would classify you as a booster. So how would that work if you got to campus and started dating an athlete? This wouldn't be a case of a pre-existing relationship since you didn't know the athlete prior to them being on scholarship at ISU.

Re: off the wall ?
Even if he can (and I'm pretty sure he can't, since he's going to be in the NBA), why do we care? I mean unless Royce has been overheard saying he's going to buy a car for Babb, why bother with the hypothetical?
