I'm glad someone finally figured out how overblown the whole flying fear thing is.

Cervantes...? Did Pollard mean to say "a savant"?

Easily cracks my top three favorite Cyclone ballers. I didn't think that was possible eight months ago.

Someone above had the exact right thought....Royce is just plain interesting. That's the bottom line, his story is so unique and he has been such a positive factor in Ames that you can't help but want him to do good.
The only bad thing about all of this attention (and him playing last Wednesday) is that I am freshly reminded as to how much I am going to miss him.

Also interesting to hear that he cancelled his Rockets and future workout due to knee and neck injury.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Who knows if Royce or his agent knew any of that at the time.

Re: Grantland - The Music in Royce White's Head
Do you guys remember the summit that Matt P and Ken Miller had to have with Hoiberg when he took Royce?
I might not have the timing of the whole thing exactly right, but Giggles was pretty worked up when it became apparent that Hoiberg was going to go the transfer route and he spent a lot of time yelling about Royce and how he would never play a game for Iowa State and how Hoiberg was crazy and stupid. It wasn't just that he had those opinions (my personal opinion 2 years ago was that Royce was a huge risk, but probably worth taking), but that he refused to see any other side of the story.
The end result was some sort of meeting between Matt and Ken and Fred and TJ. I think Matt played it off like he was telling them what they were doing wrong. I just thought it was fairly arrogant of Matt to assume that he knew what was best for the Iowa State basketball program even if he had different opinions.
Anyway, probably no one remembers that, but I thought of it today.....who would have thought we'd be sitting here two years later after a 23 win season and hopefully a first round draft pick? And I am guessing that if you had bet Matt $1000 that Royce would have stayed out of trouble (at least publically) and not only stayed out of trouble but been an asset to Ames and Iowa State, you would be $1000 richer today.
