whatever happened with pelle?
this has probably been posted before but i must have missed it. did he ever land anywhere or is he still in the process of getting his academics in order?
do we still have a spot for him in the 1% chance he gets academics in order and wants to be here (providing he isn't already somewhere else)?

Re: whatever happened with pelle?
We are not really trying to get him. He believes he will be eligible, but Iowa State doesn't think so.

Re: whatever happened with pelle?
The last update on Pelle that I've seen is from about two weeks ago from Lobo Lair, he told them that he does plan on qualifying. He has visited DePaul and New Mexico State and plans to take his final 3 official visits here this summer. On who could receive those visits he indicated Memphis, Missouri, UConn, UTEP and Florida State.
In other words, I'd put your percentage at less than 1%

Re: whatever happened with pelle?
Truthfully I'm not upset about losing him. Fred not only has made us a better program on the court, but we're better in the classroom as well. He would probably hurt us there.

He killed 5 hookers while attending SMU.

I would still take him, dead hookers or not.

Re: whatever happened with pelle?
I think Fred's placing more emphasis on the classroom that people realize. I don't have any inside information, but it seems like the high school kids we've gotten have all had a good head on their shoulders.
I wish the best for Pelle, but the classroom is not his priority. I think Fred recognized that.

Re: whatever happened with pelle?
I would take Pelle for 1-2 years. With that said, Fred has my trust and knows far more about the situation than I do, so I must infer that we're doing the right thing.

I don't have any inside info, but I would agree in that it appears he is placing emphasis on character and academics. Niang was a class president, SDW was a validictorian, Morris is supposedly a high-character/ good work ethic/ good student. Long seems to be a hard worker/ leadership type. I haven't read anything bad about Thomas or Okoro. One player destroying the APR could hurt the program for years.

I agree and according to his profile and his mother, Monte Morris is an honor roll student. Mom implied that that was a factor is picking ISU so Fred must have stressed that. After all Fred was an academic AND basketball All American so that part of recruiting ought to be easy for him. In Fred I trust!

And to support that, Fred has stated that his degree was the most important thing he got from ISU (how many players would become front-office guys at 35 w/o a degree), and I think in one of the new recruiting videos Iowa State is producing, he mentions how ge stresses academics... Further supported by the teams record GPAs in the short time that Fred has been coaching.

Just because Pelle had grade problems in high school, doesn't mean that he couldn't make a commitment to academics and excel. He would hardly be the first. Not even close.
Matter of fact, I'd kinda think that kind of support would be part of the appeal of Fred and ISU for him.
