I mean it would be crazy for him to start ahead of two guys who tore it up last year in Gibson and Booker.
Booker as a redshirt junior last year scored less in conference play than a true freshmen who we stole from an A10 school. I'm wondering why so many think a much bigger recruit who comes from an area where he played against high level competition, has "no way" of starting.
Really good chance Niang starts and we play small.

Just for the record, Booker played only 27% of the time last season, Gibson only 23%.

You made a decent point earlier in the thread that Royce only has Georges by an inch but the difference in explosion between these 2 is huge.
No way Niang starts at the 5, unless it's some experiment against a team the quality of NW Arkansas State Pine Bluff Tech.

Gibson has 1 inch on Georges. Same for Booker. I don't think that 1 inch will stop Hoiberg from starting a player who is better and one of our best scorers.

Gibson has a nice future but it's not like he is some proven stud that Niang will have to beat out.

He was one of the best scorers in a pickup league. That is a lot different than the Big 12 and he doesn't have the strength yet to be a good defensive player on the interior.
Height has nothing to do with it.

Also Gibson is two inches taller on paper.

Niang will be in a similar position as Percy last year. He will be given opportunities to prove himself, and if he does well he will continue to be given more minutes. Just like Percy. Eventually he might be placed in a starting role.

Height has nothing to do with it. Never saw him play a minute of CCL so I'm not basing it off that.
Is not like Gibson and Booker were great interior defenders. Niangs offense makes up for it anyways

Niangs offense makes up for it anyways Gibson definitely no, Booker is a decent interior defender and surely has a Big 12 body but needs to work on staying out of foul trouble. Booker is the best interior defender on the team IMO this year.
