A look at Lucious and Clyburn
Let's take a look at our two transfer new comers.
Lucious Stats(3 years at Michigan State):
17.5 minutes per game
4.8 points per game
1.4 rebounds per game
2.6 assists per game
1.6 turnovers per game
.56 steals per game
1.2 fouls per game
34% overall from the field
31% of overall shots from 2 pt range, 69% of overall shots from 3 pt range
40% from 2
1.45 2 pt attempts per game
.57 2 pt makes per game
32% from 3
3.2 3 pt attempts per game
1.04 3 pt makes per game
73% free throw percentage
.67 free throw attempts per game
.49 free throw makes per game
-Granted Lucious only played half the minutes that Clyburn did, didn't have as big of role as Clyburn, and also played with better players than Clyburn. He shows that he can score and pass. He has a 1.6 to 1 assist to turnover ratio which is solid. He doesn't shoot it that well percentage wise and shoots twice as many 3's as 2's. So his shot selection isn't the best. He also needs to get to the free throw line more. Hopefully with a year off he worked on all of these things. If he did i see him averaging 10 pts 5 assists per game.
Clyburn Stats(1 year at Utah): 34.7 minutes per game
17.1 points per game
7.8 rebounds per game
1 assist per game
2.5 turnovers per game
1.1 steals per game
2.3 fouls per game
45% overall from the field
58% of overall shots from 2 pt range, 42% of overall shots from 3 pt range
49% from 2
6.9 2 pt attempts per game
3.4 2 pt makes per game
40% from 3 5.1 3 pt attempts per game
2.1 3 pt makes per game
75% free throw percentage
5.5 free throw attempts per game
4.2 free throw makes per game
-Clyburn didn't play with the best players at Utah and had a huge role there. He also played double the minutes that Lucious did. He obviously can score and rebound very well. He shoots a great percentage from 2 and 3 which shows that he must have good shot selection. He also shows that he can take it to the hole and hit the deep ball. He gets to the line with ease as well. He needs to work on taking care of the ball as he had a 1 to 2.5 assist to turn over ratio. I could see Clyburn having a similar season to his season at Utah and being a first rounder by the time next June comes around.

Re: A look at Lucious and Clyburn
I hope Lucious plays more of a floor general type role than a high scoring type role. It doesn't seem like he has the best shot selection or the best shooting touch, but hopefully he has improved that with Fred's help

Re: A look at Lucious and Clyburn
We better be hoping the KL is avging 6+ assist a game.

Re: A look at Lucious and Clyburn
Maybe you should edit that "new comers" as well.
i also think that you're basing their future roles too much off of their previous stats. I expect Lucious to be much more of a penetrator than he was at MSU--and a better shooter, after a year off.

I just think we need our first true PG since DG to be avging around that amount. He's a senior too. That should help his cause.

Yes he really does need to balance his game out. 69% of his shots at Michigan State were from 3. He needs to get it closer to 50/50 especially considering he only shot 34% from 3. Also we have Babb, McGee, and Clyburn to shoot the majority of our 3 pt shots. We need Lucious to drive and kick to set up open 3's for these guys.

Re: A look at Lucious and Clyburn
Thanks for the research.
I am excited about these two coming in. KL needs to be our floor general, doesn't need to score, just facilitate everything.
Clyburn needs to and will score a lot for us. I am excited to see what he can do for us.

We are more up and down and push the tempo more. It will be interesting to see how he fits into Freddy's style. In addition to being the PG, DG also needed to score with the personnel he had around him. Lucious will not need to score, just get us into the offense, penetrate and PUSH, PUSH, PUSH in transition.
Also, in looking at his stats, it looks like he could be more aggessive defensively. He averaged 1.2 fouls per game and .56 steals in 17.5 minutes. Double the minutes and and he is at 2.4 fouls and just over 1 steal per game. Hopefully he can bring it on both ends.

I see him averaging 10 and 5 playing 30 minutes a game. As for defense 1 steal a game is great. Babb averaged 1 steal a game and just over one foul a game. Clyburn also averaged 1 steal a game at Utah. I think that this years team is going to be SO much better defensively than we were last year. Scott, Allen, and Royce were average to below average defenders. Korie is very quick and Will shows that he played good defense in the past. Babb and Tyrus are both lock down defenders. Hopefully Percy has worked on his defense. If we are lacking anywhere with defense it will be in the post with the Freshman Niang, Percy who was weak last year at defense, and undersized Ejim. But i still say we are a better overall defensive team than last year.

I don't think there'll be any doubt of that but it might not show up statistically as much different because I think we'll be less of a "shot clock" team on offense.

Re: A look at Lucious and Clyburn
My only concern with these two will be physical...can they stand up to the Big 12?
I think they have the skills we need, but their slight builds will take a beating.
