I feel like Fred was the perfect coach/influence for Royce. It's unlikely that NBA teams will work around his issues in any significant way unless he's better than I think he is.

They have millions of dollars tied up in him. They'll do everything they possibly can. They wouldn't have drafted him if they didn't have plans on dealing with anxiety.

Yes, and no. The Rockets are in rebuilding mode, and if they get the feeling that it's going to be a bad situation long term, they will bail on him. A first round pick in the NBA is not like a 1st rounder in the NFL.

That's not chump change, but if you start missing camps right out of the gate, especially when you have two other 1st rounders, you better show them you're worth it very quickly if you're going to cause them to work around you.

Re: Royce not with Rockets because of anxiety issues
I'm not totally convinced that McHale wasn't involved in the decision for him to get this taken care of before reporting for camp. He seemed to have a pretty good understanding of what they were getting in to when they drafted Royce.

Re: Royce not with Rockets because of anxiety issues
OK, this is a stretch, but maybe he is just trying to draw more attention to the whole anxiety thing. He has already positioned himself as an advocate for the cause. Nothing like a little national press to make sure that his NBA career gets closely connected with his cause.

Re: Royce not with Rockets because of anxiety issues
This even made it to PTI today, in the middle of football season, no less.
Royce really needs to figure out how to get into camp. It's one thing to get some anxiety if you don't feel like you're cutting it DURING camp/practice, but he hasn't even shown up yet to see how he can perform there.
