I thought he looked like a more athletic Jess Settles...........not the most gifted player in the world, but a guy that out works the other guys on the court and will put up 12 pts 8 rbs / game very efficently.
Good news! That means my four year old will get to play for Freddy with Georges in several years.
But seriously, I'm as hyped about Geroges as the next guy, but let's keep our expectations reasonable. He does look good and has played against a lot of top prep school and AAU talent. However he still has to make the transition to playing against whole teams of Big 12 bangers game in and game out. There is a very real possibility that he will struggle in parts of his game from time to time this season. Let's make sure we aren't crucifying him over it if/when it happens. He is too good of a kid for that. Let's just remember that no matter what he is still a true freshman.
GeorgesFan, I love that you are here and giving us a glimpse of what it takes to be a Cyclone player and family member of a player. I'm concerned that you are going to get lambasted on here when Georges has a less than stellar game. Don't stop posting, just consider staying away if Georges struggles from time to time because some of our posters can be pretty unreasonable. If you do come on at those times, remember that many times the very vocal critics are still a very small minority.
"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr
I'm a huge fan of this recruiting class as I think all of the recruits are just good people. Personally, win or lose (or even 1pt vs 30 pts), I am happy to have players like Georges representing ISU. Niang is a fun player to watch and I will enjoy watching him grow as a player and as a person. Niang is already my favorite player on this team and he has yet to play a game.
If you have good body position and good timing to go with smooth body control you don't have to jump that high to get layups and rebounds.
His game may not translate into the NBA but he can be a very big time B12 player even though he doesn't jump out of the gym
Yeah, all he has is a tremendous amount of basketball skills and great length and frame. From what I've seen he has really good court awareness, is a great teammate and is a real leader. But, it's not like he's some kind of stiff who can't walk and chew gum - look at the footwork and body positioning and basket savvy. The guy can really, really play. I look forward to him schooling the so-called 'better athletes' in the Big12 over the next four on the way to big things for himself and the team.
