that we had a player that actually played 4 years at ISU? i'm looking through the commit lists over the last few years and noticed that alot of these guys transferred in, came in as a freshman and then transferred out, left early to play pro ball (brackins, staiger, royce), or just disappeared. alot of names i am seeing have never even played in a single game. how far back do we have to go to find a 4 year player? i'm thinking diante garrett

i think him and rashon clark may be the only two in the last decade

Pretty standard for div 1 college basketball these days wouldn't you say? Most just see it as a developmental league for the nba. Sad because so many can't play at the next level, and they end with no educational benefit from the scholarship.

I think you're right; DG was the first name that popped into my mind too. And that's the norm anymore. Really good players will leave early, and you can chalk up the rest of the attrition to academics, bad fits, and stupid decisions. If Bubu somehow gets himself out of the mess he's made, he and Ejim both have a pretty good shot at being four year guys.

Edit: Percy Gibson might also be a four year guy, but if he grows and develops the way I think he might, he could possibly leave after his junior year for the NBA. Yeah, I think he could be that good.

I want some of what you are smoking. No way Percy leaves early to go pro. He may eventually go pro, but leave early to do so? I don't think so.

I think you will see more 4 year guys with Hoiberg. With that said, in this day and age, if a player is not getting playing time by his sophomore year, chances are they will transfer out. That is the way it is going to be, it is not and Iowa State thing, but rather the nature of the D-1 college basketball these days.

DG and Rashon Clark are two that come to mind and Scotty was here 4 years but played for 3, so not sure if he counts.

This is why I laugh when I see people calling for Okoro and SDW to redshirt. Play them, even if it's 2-3 min/game. Those are the guys that will have to contribute next year anyway. If they aren't good enough to handle some limited time this year, they probably never will be good enough to play significant minutes

SDW might play that much. I see Okoro getting Sledge minutes. 2/3 minutes every 10 games.

Here's a stat: Donnell Bivens is the last Cyclone player to play 4 years under the same head coach. He graduated in 1994.

I really don't think it's all that far-fetched. A 6'9 245 pound lefty with room to grow, and he can finish with either hand on offense. Let's say he grows another inch and adds 5-10 pounds of muscle. You don't think that kind of player could throw up a 15 and 8 as a junior and take his shot then and there? I'm not saying he's ready now...there's a long way to go, and frankly speaking, he's an absolute disaster on defense until he can prove otherwise. I'm just saying there's a lot of potential there.

Right, i agree with his potential, and maybe you are right, but I think if he is pro material, it won't be until his senior year. He has a long way to go to becoming a pro, and I don't think he can do that in just two years. Maybe three.

Don't get me wrong. I hope you are correct and he is good enough to go pro after his junior year, but I'm not holding my breath
