transfers may (our case) or may not (many others) help, the statistics suggest there's no way to predict this. It will help in our case. A lot.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Basketball Prospectus' statistical preseason rankings, which is adjusted for incoming transfers, has Iowa State ranked no. 30 and projected to go 11-7 in conference play. It pegs us as slightly better both offensively and defensively than last season.

How does that make any sense. Transfers and freshmen are essentially the same, newcomers to the program. How do you include one type of newcomer but exclude the other?

Generally transfers aren't of that caliber so it does make some sense. He even mentions Royce being an unusual case, and hopefully next year he will point out again that Iowa State was an exception and had a first round NBA draft choice as a transfer.

Who refers to UNLV as Nevada Los Vegas? Just write in what everyone knows it as.

Should be top 25 after the non-conference

Re: Ken Pom Rankings - ISU 62nd
Pre-season rankings are garbage. Only ranking we care is the one in March.
Let's go Clones. Time to prove they are all wrong once again!

He really treats his rankings more as an analysis tool than a predictor. He doesn't even recommend predicting the NCAA tourney games based solely on his rankings. In fact, he points out that 30 games isn't really enough for a computer to accurately predict a team's performance.

The Pomeroy Rankings and the data he collects is good enough for dozens of Division I college coaches, but it doesn't pass muster for the people here I guess.

You can tell by the way Fred/Abdelmassih talk that they agree with Pomeroy or even follow him. They both focus on the four factors quite frequently.

Couldn't have said it better. Give it a few weeks into the season, and if ISU does well and moves up the rankings, it'll be back to being a great poll.
