With the success that Royce had, it's too bad that we didn't land an offensively skilled post player. I figured the way we used him would appeal to a forward that wanted to handle the ball a lot.

I watched their first game against Carl Sandburg. The opposition was outmatched by Hills with their tallest player around 6'7" but they played smart basketball. You can't take Hogue's stats real seriously as he was benched the first half and 5 mins for not being able to get back from New York for a grandparents funeral and he just wasn't really into the game. He appears to be a pretty well build 6'4" guard but didn't show a whole lot in this game. It's too bad we couldn't get McKay because he appears to be step above everyone else on the team at this point.

As for Amardi he appears to be much more of a project then I had anticipated. He definitely has the size and some athleticism for he was switching in and out for McKay (who is taller probably 6'10" but is real thin) and playing the out of bands defender and top of the key on defense. Not the easiest thing too do for a 6'9" 215lb guy (though the one page insert has him at 6'7"). He looked a little slow at times and not sure where he was supposed to be and the coach spent more time with him on the bench then anyone from what I saw. I think he'll get a lot better before the year is done. One thing we know for sure is that these guys will be in great shape as Hills presses the entire court for the entire game and if you don't like there are five more guys waiting right behind you to play.

I also found some stats from their game last night against a much better Kirkwood team. Eagles push Indian Hills to limit

Wow... 13 FT attempts for Hogue. He must take it to the rim, huh?

My concern is Hogue is a wing that does not handle or shoot well enough...in other words a 6-4 power forward.

I think both of these guys are probably foreseen as role players. I think Hogue is a well above average rebounder for his size, and he's great at getting to the line. They aren't pretty skills, but they both translate to getting more points, and that's what matters.

If Amardi doesn't work out, no big deal. That scholly may not have even been used. If he can give the team 5-10 minutes when other posts are in foul trouble or fatigued, I think he'll probably be a good use of a scholly.
