Niang is already our best player?
If so, does this mean we are going to be good or bad? Very good press for him though... SI.com's 2012-13 Preseason Crystal Ball Predictions - NCAA Basketball - SI.com -
Re: Niang is already our best player?
Thamel - Georges Niang, Iowa State:
Early buzz from Iowa State practice is that freshman forward Georges Niang is already the Cyclones' best player. A natural scorer with a deft touch, polished mid-range game and solid range, expect the 6-7 Niang to win Big 12 Freshman of the Year and score bushels of points during his career in Ames. Niang's only issue is his sloppy body, as he's done a poor job ridding himself of baby fat. Consider this: Niang was the MVP of his prep school team, which featured Nerlens Noel as its star center.

I'm sure that "problem with ridding himself of baby fat" has been resolved with the S&C staff here.

great for him, i think he could be a great player, but probably wont even start at the begining of this year. might not start at all.

Tough call, but my gut tells me if that is true - bad.

Re: Niang is already our best player?
I am picturing him as a Doug McDermott style player. A fundamentally sound, undersized big man but can utilize his body well on the post.

Re: Niang is already our best player?
Why is it a bad thing that a freshman is our best player? It's like people are scared of getting good recruits. If Fred somehow gets Vaughn, I bet he's our best player his freshman year as well. Just because a freshman is your best player, doesn't mean the rest of your team sucks.

The baby fat I saw him playing with in the Exhibition game was the same baby fat I saw him playing with when I watch him playing AAU last year. They'll get him looking better though for sure.

Nobody is making it sound like they've been disappointed with the likes of Clyburn or Lucious, whom we sort of know what to expect from. Niang being the "best" would just be an awesome surprise. But it could be bad news for someone who thought they'd be starting this year.

some guy's opinion of what he heard from our practices shouldn't mean our team sucks

Considering the production Clyburn was touted as being able to provide ISU this year versus what we saw in the exhibition game I would take Niang as the best player meaning Clyburn is likely a disappointment.
I believe that a only moderately athletic freshman post - even a hard working freshman like Niang - being our best player is probably not meaning great things out of the team. Although it could just mean that GeorgesFan raised an even more exceptional kid than even we thought.
