    Good or Bad?

Is it good or bad how were already whining about problems after one game? (Without Chris Babb, who no one seems to mention.) this kinda reminds me of the win over Iowa in football this year, how we only whined and didn't celebrate. For good reason though, our offense is terrible.

Anyway, the way some people are talking makes it sound like Iowa has a better team than us, which isn't possible.

Not good or bad, it's basketball. We could win by fiddy, and there'd still be some on here complaining that we went soft at the end of the 2nd half.

Basketball discussion on this board is always overwhelmingly negative. That's just the nature of the game. Unless we win 100-0, people will see what they want to.

    Re: Good or Bad?

I agree that this team will be completely different with Babb in the lineup. His defense, size, and leadership will be worth a ton for the team, let alone adding his shooting.
"He is the toughest I have ever been around, physically and mentally," Burnham said. "You can beat him down but you’re not going to beat him out. He’s got the mindset of, ‘If you’re going to get me out of this game, you’re going to have to kill me.’ That’s about where he is."

    Re: Good or Bad?

Nobody should be worried at this point. If we are still having problems like this in 10 games, I would be starting to worry. Just like last year, this team is going to take some time to gel. We have an almost completely new starting line-up this year and a lot of young players getting time. No matter how much you practice together it's still going to take some time to learn to play together as a team in real games. Once everybody gets settled in and knows what their role is, this can be a very good basketball team! Can't wait to go along for the ride!

    Re: Good or Bad?

The thing that people need to realize about college basketball is that almost any D1 team can beat another d1 team any night. All they need is someone to get hot. There's a lot more basketball talent out there than football because a team can only consist of 13 to 15 scholarship players and kids can go to others places to get more playing time. When it comes to basketball a win of 20+ points is very good especially when your playing a team picked to win their conference. I don't care which one it is. Take it and move on to the next game.

Was thinking this as soon as the game started. I can't remember the name of their guard that went off for 20+ points (most of them early), but with Babb in the line-up those points aren't coming from the guy he's guarding. His defense is a big difference maker for us.

    Re: Good or Bad?

IMO basketball is a sport that can be "easily" nit-picked for a number of reasons. With only 10 guys on the floor, essentially only a few aspects that the normal outside eye would focus on (shooting/offense, defense, rebounding), and a face paced game where a lot of mistakes can be easily seen people will tend to find things to complain about whether it's warranted or not. But like MartyFine said, it's a good thing there's so much interest.

Beltran was the Southern player. I agree, seems like we tried to throw a little bit of everyone at him, McGee, Ejim, and Lucious.

Been said many times, but Babb needs to be a more consistent offensive player this year, I'd hate to have to spend the whole season choosing between Babb's D and McGee's shooting and playmaking. Based on last year, if you insert Babb into our starting lineup (presumably for McGee), we actually become a worse 3 point shooting team.

    Re: Good or Bad?

Before we worry about nit-picking, what is a board for? I think to express opinions. Opinions are extremely complicated, since while someone might say something negative at one point they might have an overall very positive opinion of the team and especially the coach. I can't see what people are worried about. Are you saying we should not point out that players make mistakes, coaches make mistakes, people aren't human, they should be working to some impossible goal of perfection and they aren't. Man! that would sure make for a boring board, people only saying positive things.
