Re: Royce White headed to D-league??
My guess would be that right now, the Rockets are likely exploring every possibility of trading him.......which of course will probably not happen because a team would have to be really, really desperate to take on this circus, and Royce has not proven at all that he can actually play in this league.
After that.....I think they will try again to come to terms with Royce and move him to the D-League, but if he continues to act like a prima donna I think they will just take the hit financially and cut him. I'm not sure what types of clauses there are in the NBA contracts for non-performance, but my guess would be there is something in there that will protect the Rockets for at least some of the money they have paid out already, or that they agreed to with Royce.
Like I have said before, whoever Royce is listening to, he is getting some terrible advice. He is in the process of destroying what could have been a very lucrative career, and what would have been a fantastic platform for his mental illness/anxiety cause. All he is doing with this sideshow is giving confirmation to all the naysayers who said any team drafting him should be cautious because of his anxiety issues. He is at the point of no longer coming across as a courageous spokesman for his cause, but rather more as just another nut job.

Can you imagine the boos if he ever does take the court in Houston at this point?

Sad to see a career destroyed, at least in part, by Twitter. I understand celebrities and athletes feeling that it is good PR, but if they have to use it, every tweet should be filtered through a very good publicist.

The player is destroying the career, not Twitter. Twitter is just letting us into the mindset of why it's imploding.

Re: Royce White headed to D-league??
I wish Hoiberg could fly down there and be like "Alright let's chill for a minute." I think this is part anxiety spiraling out of control and part getting terrible advice from someone on what to do. I guarantee you he's getting advice from someone. He needs to stop though and focus on basketball, otherwise he's going to ruin his chances of playing anywhere except Europe, the Middle East, or South Africa. It's sad to see this because the guy has a load of potential. He was one of my favorite players as a Cyclone, and he might screw it all up.

Re: Royce White headed to D-league??
I'm going to straddle the fence on this one: But I think Royce uses twitter as a tool to deal with his anxiety. He's always tweeted a lot. This isn't a new thing. Do you remember some of those times last year where Royce would "retweet everyone!" Only difference was, last year, only Cyclone fans (who are an incredibly supportive group) and other anxiety sufferers who heard of his plight followed him. Therefore, he got most positive responses. He was able to see a community of support and knew he wasn't in this alone. He was in a land of lions.
That situation changed. Now, he reads tweets and sees negative responses. He's a public figure, and that means more people follow him. the more followers, the more a-holes that will follow you. Combine that with the fact you know he will respond to you, and you get a lot of trolls. Twitter's changed from a helpful tool to a destructive one.
Maybe this would have happened at Iowa State too? He would be a top 5 player in the country, on award watch lists, and on a top 15 team (only guessing)... so same story, more people would have followed him, and more trolls. I think he could have had the same problem at ISU... so in that sense, thank goodness he's not here.
Bottom line... he was tweeting AT 3 AM LAST NIGHT!! That's not healthy for an NBA player. That's not putting in the WORK you need to in order to improve. Get off twitter, find a new support system, and have your actions speak louder than your tweets.

I also think it's a shame that all these articles were written about Royce's struggle about needing a bus for the games. Everyone is focusing on this, when it's a much bigger issue.

I don't think he's getting bad advice from anyone - I can't imagine anyone on Earth telling him to do this. I think his problem is more that he doesn't have anyone giving him GOOD advice and a sense of perspective, not that anyone's giving him bad advice.

He is at the point of no longer coming across as a courageous spokesman for his cause, but rather more as just another nut job. I think he's fully crossed that bridge at this point. If I'm the Rockets, I don't trade him or cut him right now. I just try to wait this out. They would be trading him at his lowest possible value and they still take the salary cap hit if they cut him. The Rockets organization obviously liked Royce's potential when they drafted him, and even though Royce has made it much harder on himself to be successful at this point, he could still have value to them. I'd send him to the D-League, like they are doing, and just hold on to his rights while he tries to figure this out.
If he does figure it out and get back to playing basketball, great, if not you just cut him loose when his contract runs out. He's already a sunk cost at this point, and I can't see the Rockets trying to get his salary back since the cons of fighting with the NBAPA are much greater than the pro of gaining a few hundred thousand dollars back.

Re: Royce White headed to D-league??
I was reading the houston rockets forum and some guy between totally ripping on Royce said something kind of interesting. He said something along the lines of what a terrible medium twitter is(b/c 160 chars) for explaining anything of as much nuance as mental health awareness. I think he may have been right based on what we've seen.

Royce is destroying his career. Twitter is just a red herring.
