We were top 15 couple months back when we just had Thomas and Morris.

Well there were too many unsigned people at that point, we knew that we would move down some.

Re: ESPN has our class at #24

KU got another big commitment today. Joel Embiid, a 7-footer, who top 100 now, but will reportedly be in 4 or 5 star in the final rankings (he is in his second year of organized basketball). Very much like Cato. Was obviously a bit unknown until recently- the type of big we dream of finding first. KU will have at least 4 top 50 guys, and 5 in the top 100. Even with the standard bump in recruits rankings for committing to KU, that is a good haul.
However, KU having a top class is not new, so until there is more than 1 ball and 5 spots on the floor, there is diminishing returns.

Looking over the class if 2013 in the Big 12, many of the more highly rated guards are smaller. KU has Connor Frankamp (6-1 SG) and Frank Mason (5-11 PG). OU has Jordan Woodard (6-0 PG). KSU will sign Marcus Foster (6-0 PG). Stevie Clark (5-9 PG) is likely to go to Baylor or OU.
This makes getting a pg like Custer in 2014 much more desirable.

This could be said every year.

With the talent we lose and the uncertainty coming in. Seems like we will take a step back and KU will take a big step forward.

KU brings in highly ranked recruits every year. It depends on match-ups more than who had the better freshman class. Given we lose 5 seniors, the match-ups probably will not be in our favor.

We will take a step back losing 5 seniors, but I doubt KU will take a big step forward due to that class (how much of a step forward is there?). When was the last time KU did not have more than 5 highly ranked recruits on their roster?

I was just going to say this. What earth-shattering news, Kansas has a bunch of top 50 recruits coming in. In other news I hear the wardrobe of choice at KU games is still the never out-of-style sweater vest/collared shirt combo.

I have a feeling that Fred isn't done getting top 50 kids.

KU is going to be pretty good this year, but I think they will be better next year. This could be Bill Self's best class ever, and there is a good chance Perry Ellis and Ben McLemore will be around next year, too. Most sites say Embiid will be in the top 20 when they release the new rankings.

That is what I was getting at. I think that will be a special class for KU beyond their regular.
