FSN does not cover a vast chunk of Eastern Iowa, including the second largest city in the state. That is a problem.

There is simply no way a deal with Mediacom could be portrayed as moving forward, or "the real deal." We had it, and it sucked so bad ISU created its own network. And now we're supposed to be excited that ISU might be on Mediacom again?
Anything short of live events being picked up by a national carrier like Fox, or at the very least being made available on ESPN Full Court, will be a massive disappointment.

Sports pack...ever heard of those? Makes it pretty easy to get a channel that isn't on the main tier. Last time I check you can't add a cable company to your entire town.

The argument isn't whether or not you can get it if you pay enough, though, its whether Iowa State feels that the fact that they'd need to figure out how to coordinate between FSN North, FSN Midwest and the parts of Iowa that don't have a truly local FSN channel (because you can't count on FCS to carry everything) is better than what Mediacom can offer.
I'd very strongly prefer a deal with FSN. But there's a number of reasons its not overly likely.

FSN is not available on Mediacom in eastern Iowa on any tier. Fox College sports is included in the sports pack and will often mirror FSN broadcasts but that is as close as you can get.

So every team in the Big 12 minus Texas has a deal with FSN and we get Mediacom. Hella awesome!
