Re: How concerned should we be?
Did anyone else notice that McGee was hoisting up a lot of contested threes? That was uncharacteristic of him.
I think we were down by 10 with 3-4 minutes to go, maybe it was 57-67, and McGee launched a three from six feet beyond the arc. The Clones were playing like the game was over at that point.
Re: How concerned should we be?
Did the hawk seriously rush the court after the game? Lol

That Wichita State team is undefeated and ranked in the top 25. How can you call the MVC a good conference in one breath and in the next breath trash one of the best teams/programs in the conference? That makes no sense.
And what makes Drake better than Iowa? Iowa is 8-2 and Drake is 3-4. Iowa dusted Drake last year. Iowa has improved while Drake has taken a step back.
Hell, what makes US better than Iowa? They are superior to us at several positions including coaching, IMHO. (And I don't think Freddie is a bad coach, btw.)

Let's wait until next week to draw this conclusion.
Re: How concerned should we be?
Didn't we start out this way last year too? Also Fred said he was going to change the style to suit the players he has, you have to crawl before you walk, walk before you run and gun.

Respect for the word "catdog"

I think we ought to sit McCoy down and make him come off the bench instead of starting him. :twitcy: Seriously, NiMoy should be in big trouble.
Re: How concerned should we be?
Iowa is good. We should all commit suicide.

Hey Mitten! How's it going? Good to see you here.
You think Leonard Nimoy should be in big trouble?
Re: How concerned should we be?
I realize the conference as a whole is down quite a bit this year, but I don't believe ISU will finish second. They just haven't shown the focus that would be required to get that done. Lack of focus = loss to teams you need to beat. This team needs to protect home court and play smart/tough enough to steal 3-5 games on the road. The team I watched at Carver Friday night probably can't do that. But the team I've watched at other times this season can. Which ISU team shows up on any given night? That's what is scary.
Can we finish in the top four? I think so, judging by the quality of basketball I've seen from the others. Will that get ISU into the tournament? It should, but with the league bottom being as bad as it is, it depends on who we beat, I guess. That's why I don't think we want to be in fifth place when NCAA time rolls around.
Re: How concerned should we be?
I agree with you, Die4Cy. I couldn't believe how many people on this site thought we would blow out the Hawks in Iowa City. It was just a classic case of wishful thinking. And the people who said after the game that Iowa played lights out must not have noticed that Marble barely scored at all and that Iowa missed a lot of open shots in the first half. The Hawks will have games that are a lot better than that this year.
As far as the Big XII is concerned, the teams that look like they're better than us are Kansas, K-State, Okie State and possibly Baylor. Baylor routed Kentucky but also lost to some bad teams. I think we're looking at finishing either fourth or fifth this year.

This implies they have been making those shots at some point this year. They have not. They played as well as they have for the most part this year. The Hawks are a bad shooting team, so they played about up to their normal standards. They played great D and worked all night. This was about as good as the Hawks have looked this year.

Jesus, another one of these threads started by a piece of **** hawk fan,
Way to go all that responded to this piece of ****. You validated his worthless existence.
Re: How concerned should we be?
I love Fred, but even when his teams have won over the last 2+ years, they've shown poor shot selection and struggled to take care of the ball. Friday nights game was pretty typical of what a struggling FH coached team looks like. Last season, it took until after Xmas for this team to hit its stride (if you thought this was an NCAA tourney team at this time last year, you had a serious Kool Aid dependance), for whatever reason things started to gel when big 12 play opened. The bad news is we went 1-3 against the best non conference teams we played, the good news is, while the big 12 has a lot of solid teams, no one looks unbeatable so I'll hold off being worried for a couple months. Honestly, some humble pie might have been just what the team and fans needed.
