I will say this, the atmosphere at Carver-Hawkeye doesn't come close to Hilton. I thought their fans would have called it decent for a big game. But after going against my better judgement and seeing the excitement on Hawkeye Nation about the crowd, they act like it's the best it's ever been.
Sure makes me damn glad to be a Cyclone. Real crowds act like the ones we had last year for Kansas and Baylor.
Not going for sour grapes here, Iowa outplayed ISU by a mile tonight. The Iowa crowd left quite a bit to be desired for 15,000+ and a much larger % of Hawkeyes relative to Cyclones than I expected.
I'm sure a LOT of fans didn't make it to the game because it was on Friday night and most people had to work...I know that's why I couldn't go.
Although after watching this stinkfest I think I would have been ****** if I HAD made the trip - I can tell you this though- would not want to be riding home on the team bus with coach. That would make an already long trip even longer.
We went down with the kids. Not a huge Cyclone fan contingent, but there were plenty of us there, we were really scattered about. I thought their crowd was only halfway into the game, and we were right near the student section. I was surprised they were crowing about it that much after the game.
Iowa City is a nightmare getting into and out of.
It's harvest season.
What were they chanting at kl when he was at the line? Sounded like "re-tread"
It was "retread."
Sure are a clever bunch, aren't they?
Not many clones. The iowa student section had 500 empty seats.
I was at mid court half way up and our row had more empty seats than people in them. It was like that all over our section
And I will second those saying that the atmosphere at CHA is not anywhere near the atmosphere at Hilton. The crowd got loud on a few of the offensive plays but had absolutely no intensity on the defensive end. I didn't have to stand for more than one possession at any point during the game.
Disappointing turnout by Cyclone fans, for sure.
Iowa is on their way to becoming a great basketball school in this state.
The real key is to be horrible in football, so no problem there.
