Why did Naz Long not play last night?
I noticed he didn't have any stats, was curious why he didn't see the floor at all. Especially when Ejim was in foul trouble and Clyburn couldn't get anything going. I realize it's a different position in Ejim's case but still surprised he didn't get any time.
Re: Why did Naz Long not play last night?
I hope they start to work him back in. Even if he only averages 5 mpg, he still needs some game time so that he can acquire experience for next year, when we'll count on him.
Re: Why did Naz Long not play last night?
Very disappointed he didn't get a chance. Not sure why we didn't try him when Fred tried to put Clyburn at point for a few minutes.
Re: Why did Naz Long not play last night?
The Clyburn at point experiment has looked terrible this year. I have no problem trying it against the Directional Schools of the world to see how it works but not against anyone descent. Every time I have seen ISU do this I have seen their lead get smaller or loose it.

It sounds like I'm probably wrong on this, but when I was watching it it seemed like once he took lucious out and did this during the first half, we started making it a game... those first 5-10 minutes beforehand were terrible
Re: Why did Naz Long not play last night?
Maybe they didn't think he could handle the press as well as Lucious?
Re: Why did Naz Long not play last night?
I thought Long looked effective in the early games, particularly when he and Lucious played together. Then came the Las Vegas trip and his PT plummeted. Now it's kind of a chicken and egg thing. Has he lost it because he's not playing, or vise versa? Considering what we're getting from the starters, I'd like to see him play more, errors and all. We'll need him down the road.

When Lucious checked out at the 15:00 mark we were down 7... when he checked back in 2 minutes later the Iowa lead was 9.

Lucious is a pretender, not a contender. He hurts our team every minute he's on the floor- TO's, circus shots, poor leadership, ill-advised jacked up 3's. At least Royce could pass the ball effectively. I'm not asking him to replace Royce, but for ******'s sake don't turn the ball over.
Re: Why did Naz Long not play last night?
Here are some relevant statistics so far, though sample size still an issue
TO Rate (when a player ends a possession, how often is it in a turnover):
Korie Lucious - 33.8%
Naz Long - 48.7%
Will Clyburn - 24.1%
Assist Rate (when anyone on the team scores when player is on the floor, how often is the player credited with an assist):
Korie Lucious - 29.3% (137th in the nation)
Naz Long - 17.1%
Will Clyburn - 12.8%
Re: Why did Naz Long not play last night?
Naz has been losing time because of his defense. Fred will put him in and then Naz gets burned by his guy. Fred will immediately pull him out afterwards.
Re: Why did Naz Long not play last night?
Though naz can take care of the ball on offense, he does lack the necessary quickness it takes to be point from what I can tell. I still think he will be a solid player for us in the coming years.

I hope that MM can be a legit and true PG for us. So far, Fred seems enamored with combos and but you always need at least one true PG that can make good decisions with the ball for your half court O.

Clyburn played a pretty good game at point guard against UNLV, actually looked much better once we moved him over in that game. He just wasn't his normal self at all last night. I wonder what happened to his hand in the second half of BYU game when he had it taped up, had it taped for the FGCU game as well, seemed to play a bit more timid in the BYU game after that and didn't do to much in FGCU game either. Not saying that is why he had such a terrible game last night, but may be something to consider.
Re: Why did Naz Long not play last night?
Clyburn at point is AWFUL. It is beyond terrible. I'd rather see Tyrus run the point if KL is out and we aren't gonna play Naz. The Clyburn at point experiment needs to be over.
