Re: Should ISU have done more to keep Greg and Doug McDermott in Ames?
Yes we sucked a fat one last night and I am sure the team knows that, but to start this type of thread is absolutely absurd. Greg could not get it done here plain and simple he is a mid major coach and not a big conference coach. Yes losing to those ****** out east sucks, but in a nut shell getting exposed some before conference play is not the worse thing we can shore some things up to get better.
Re: Should ISU have done more to keep Greg and Doug McDermott in Ames?
The only Chewie I want in Ames is the one from Star Wars.

And just think, this is what HN looks like everyday...
Re: Should ISU have done more to keep Greg and Doug McDermott in Ames?
The answer to your stupid question is a resounding NO!! Greg McDermott was the worst coach in program history.

Except with a lot less traffic.
Re: Should ISU have done more to keep Greg and Doug McDermott in Ames?
McDipstick's tenure here was one giant train wreck. I still send the Creighton AD gift cards every month as a thank you for hiring him and will continue to do so until my dying day.
Re: Should ISU have done more to keep Greg and Doug McDermott in Ames?
I think the OP is confusing smart pills with rabbit crap again.
Re: Should ISU have done more to keep Greg and Doug McDermott in Ames?
give us Creighton in the Ncaa's. Please.
Re: Should ISU have done more to keep Greg and Doug McDermott in Ames?
It never ceases to amaze me, how short peoples memories are. We couldn't wait to get McD out of here, and deservedly so. Whenever a thread like this comes up, I just hang my head in shame, not of ISU, but of the human race. How can anyone look at what he did here at ISU and think, "****, we really should have kept that guy." The only ones thinking that, were opposing teams.
Re: Should ISU have done more to keep Greg and Doug McDermott in Ames?
Greg at one time had 4 NBA players on his roster, and couldn't make the NIT. That is all that needs said.
Re: Should ISU have done more to keep Greg and Doug McDermott in Ames?
I could never understand why Greg wouldn't recruit his kid to Iowa State. Doug would have been at UNI not Iowa State if Greg were still a coach here. That always baffled me.

Ya, I saw him play in person his JR year and wondered instantly why we wouldn't want a 6'7" kid that can shoot like he does. Not to mention he's the son of a coach, so there is some savviness that usually goes with that.
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't predicting AA caliber, but I felt he could have been a nice player for us and worst case scenario, he looked like a very good role players/6th-man.
I'm sure Chewy sort of knew his days were numbered and didn't want to put him through that.
Re: Should ISU have done more to keep Greg and Doug McDermott in Ames?
I'm sure the biggest reason that Doug McDermott didn't sign here was because Greg knew that he couldn't last much longer here. That would have set up a situation where Doug would have been transferring to another school sometime.
Greg also had to realize how much animosity against him was building among fans. That would have been transferred onto Doug and I doubt that he wanted to put his son in that spot.

Actually, I felt JP should have given Morgan one more year to correct the things JP had issue with.

And the saddest part of that which no one ever discusses is that with Doug on their team (and the new Big Four Classic did not exist) UNI would be beating ISU for four straight years.
