Days of Thunder is a perfect comparison. Excellent perspective to take on the season thus far. Good work CW.
I agree with your thoughts on Tech, too bad Sonny Dy-kes was likely their best bet and he's already headed West. I don't think the locals deep down would be very comfortable with handing the reigns to Kingsbury without him holding a head coaching position somewhere else.
Tommy was a poor fit and choice for TT. Hopefully they do even worse this time around.
"Fit" is exactly right, it's the most important thing when hiring a coach, but it seems to take ADs a while to figure that out. Big sexy names are hard to pass up.
Can Dan McCarney rescue TT?
Would've liked to hear some musings on how our team prepared (or didn't prepare) for Iowa to press and also on the starting lineup going forward considering 2 starters were benched for the first time this season on Sunday. Day of Thunder was a good movie though.
Good comparison, and from what I've seen from Freddie, it's almost like he treats the non-conference season as an experiment:
Let the guys play and see what their strengths and weaknesses are.
Toy with the lineup with guys in various groupings and positions.
Teach and learn from the successes and failures.
Place much greater emphasis on the Big 12 season than non-conference.
It just seems like last year, like this year, we were all over the place in non-conference, and when the Big 12 hit, we had the bugs worked mostly out, and got right down to business.
I thought the Wizard of Oz might also be a comparable movie....we are not in Kansas anymore, recruits...we need to go off to find the wizard, CFH.
Two words: Iowa's superbowl
Friday was some bad bad basketball. Hope these guys can Day's of Thunder this thing. Right now the clones have been beat every time they have played a worthy opponent. I do not see much fire from this team. Its playing too sloppy and too soft to be competitive. It was tough to watch the hawks throw all the punches Friday night. IMO the clones got out played and out worked by an inferior opponent. Man Up! Cyclones
I didn't think their press was a concern at all. Our mistakes and turnovers were mostly self inflicted.
I hate to admit this, but I liked the way Fran had his team playing on both ens of the floor. It's a rivalry again. I agree that Korie and Will need to step up. Not bad mouthing them as they sat out a year and this is a work in progress so it is to be expected. We need to develop a team identity of toughness and hustle, a la Tyrus McGee.
Days of Thunder is a great Movie. My analogy would have been teen wolf. A team coming to grips of its identity as a beast, then dunking like a mad wolf.
Tommy is still on his way back to the SEC. Tech should hire Kingsbury. Big 12 has great Coaches. Such a tough time to be Coaching in this league.
