IMO this how we got here, from hearing those in different ath depts talk about it and putting pieces together. Fran has never liked playing both MVC schools and really didnt like going on the road to play them. ISU was on the fence about it and waited for Iowa to make the first move. ISU would rather play at the Well than the Knapp or Phone Center. ISU still could have had their home game in Hilton vs the team they dont play at the Well, but UNI has no intrest in not getting a home game in return.

2) Iowa fans know the 2012 version of the football team was an absolute train wreck. Congrats, hope you win the game and don't finish the season with a losing record.

I forgot:
3) UNI and Drake should know their place. They are lucky to get a neutral site game vs. a major conference team every other year. UNI fans in particular have really been annoying the way they have been crying about the end of the home and home.

Re: big four classic attendance by fan base
Why couldn't we start a real tournament for these prices? Take all 4 Iowa teams, invite 2 majors from non-Big10/12 and 2 other mid-major teams, and have a 2-day tourney. "The Big 4 Classic" or invite or something.

I doubt you'd get any other majors willing to come and potentially play two Iowa schools on their home turf in a 2-day span.

Never thought about buying the cheapo seats and moving down when the Iowa game was over, until the game was over. Might have to do this next year.

Re: big four classic attendance by fan base
If I were making this, I would try to put the Iowa game at 11 am, and the ISU game at 6ish and fill the time between the big four games with other schools from Iowa. I would allow for separate ticket sales, but also sell a full session ticket so that you could see grinnel, coe, wart burg, buena vista etc. There are some highly ranked juco schools in the state, and as a fan of basketball I would be much more willing to pay $70 to see grinnel and the four D-1 schools play on the same day. Maybe even work a high school game between a team from the east and west.

You have a good idea, but that's not what this classic is about. It's meant to be a celebration of our state's four basketball programs, and scheduling outside teams would diminish what they're trying to do. I don't really like the classic, but if the choice is playing at the Knapp Center/Whatever UNI's building is called, I'll take the alternative, which is what we have now. As long as it continues to be close to a sellout, it won't be going away any time soon.

the uni/drake fans were the worst since they openly cheered for their mvc teams against the big state schools and talked plenty of trash
i saw some isu fans standing up and cheering when uni was trying to make a comeback so plenty of isu fans returned the favor

Re: big four classic attendance by fan base
It's not totally unheard of for major conference programs to play home and away with programs from lesser conferences. Don't Creighton and Nebraska alternate hosting? I'm almost sure Gonzaga and Washington State do. BYU and Utah do.
