If cyclones.tv had triple or even double their total current subscriber base, I doubt we would have seen the ISU AD push to get it on Mediacom this quickly. They've probably gotten a slew of complaints about the whole setup and may have decided it was best to get the games back to conventional broadcasting sooner rather than later. Or maybe you're over thinking it and the Mediacom deal was just to get more viewers and build program prestige regardless of the subscriber base..? Also, cutting a deal with a cable company that covers a fairly limited area (though a good bit of Iowa) is not what I would call "conventional broadcasting". These games aren't going to be available for free on WOI or available on Windstream or other local cable companies. MC22 is on basic cable, but I'm still not sure what tier the Cyclones/Hawkeye stations will be on. Point being you're going to have to pay some way and deal with either the trouble of internet access or (IMO) a pretty terrible cable company (but's that a bit OT).

If you live close enought to Ames that you used to get WOI over-the-air, then you're probably close enough to just go to the game.

If 7000 is true, that is lower than I would have expected. I think ISU is smart to try something like this and get the best deals they can. I haven't seen any dollar amounts announced with the Mediacom deal. Are they even getting any money from Mediacom in the short term? Too early to say if it will be successful or not. Assuming they can maintain 7000 x $80., that is 560K per year.
For comparison, I found this info about the longhorn network that I have seen people make fun of. Texas receives $11 million per year with potential for much more: ESPN is committing $26 million per year to run the Longhorn Network, with $10,980,000 slated to go directly to Texas. That number will increase 3 percent annually. If and when ESPN gets back the $295 million it invested, Texas will receive 70 percent of all future profits. That means the end of the 20-year deal has the potential to be a big cash cow

Re: Can I get some good old fashioned TV?
question. I just deployed and I am curious if cyclones.tv works overseas? I did a search on cf and looked at the FAQs for cyclones.tv and the consensus is that it is supposed to work fine overseas, but that is not the case for me. When I go to load any content, I just get a gray screen in the media player/neulion window. I have been a subscriber of cyclones.tv since its inception and clonezone before that and never encountered a problem.
Of note, I just bought a new computer before I left and I am not sure if that would have anything to do with it since my older computer runs it with no problem outside of the general suckiness of neulion. The FAQs on the website seem really outdated and are not of much use, so any help here would be greatly appreciated. I need my Cyclones, but being 9 hours ahead is not exactly conducive to watching them live. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
