Don't mind Nallen, he's just being nosy again.
Interesting coaching matchups:
Colorado State - Larry Eustachy
Oregon State - Craig Robinson (brother of the First Lady)
South Carolina - Frank Martin
Diamond Head Classic
Based on the 2011 and 2012 fields they had 3 high majors, 3 mid majors, and 2 low majors.
Right now the 2013 field is:
Iowa State-high major/BIG 12
South Carolina-high major/SEC
Oregon State-high major/PAC 12
Saint Marys-mid major/WCC
Boise State-mid major/MWC
George Mason-low major/Colonial
Hawaii-low major/Big West
So I would assume the 8th team will be another mid major team. It looks the 2012 field they had San Diego State from the Mountain West and San Francisco from the West Coast Conference. The 2013 field they have Boise State from the Mountain West and Saint Marys from the West Coast Conference. They had Southern Illinois a Missouri Valley team as their 3rd mid major team in the 2012 field, so maybe the 3rd mid major for the 2013 field will be a Missouri Valley team..? Hopefully Creighton so we can beat McDermott again!
My guess is that we will play George Mason in the first round. Then probably South Carolina or Saint Marys in the second round. If we make the championship my guess is that we will be playing Boise State. They return everyone but one player on next years team, and this year they are a bubble team. South Carolina also only loses one player and replaces him with a top 100 recruit. I think Frank Martin will have next years team in the NIT, possibly the NCAA tournament discussion. No way he has two losing seasons in a row. Saint Marys loses two of their better players and don't really replace them with too much. I don't think they will be as good next year as they are this year. That's why I see Saint Marys or South Carolina in the second round and not in the championship. I'm anxious to see who the 8th team is! This tournament is turning out to be a pretty good one. I can't wait!
Hmm...trip to Hawaii to cheer on the Cyclones...YES PLEASE.
Trolled the Colorado State message board, and left a message asking for clarification on if they knew the Rams were in the tournament. RamNation. com members did not hear that they were in the tournament, but questioned why there would be two representatives from the MWC participating in this tournament. And they have a valid point.
Perhaps Colorado State backed out, and Boise State was a replacement. Pure speculation. Stay tuned..
I don't think St. Marys is going to be in this tournament anymore since they got hit with a preseason tournament ban.
